How do you best source a clean used rs6 ?

Post by rs6darryl » Sat Mar 03, 2007 4:04 pm

Why are theyre so many Used Rs6 selling from £31999 one week then within weeks deals being offered around £27000

Can anyone tell me is it true owning a RS^ from3 yrs old onwards a death wish of unannounced costs with faults arising aplenty !!

If this is the case why is this car so highly regarded if it always appears to have faults.

I read this forum and generally most topics are negative concerns.. I have owned a 2001 rs4 and 2003 rs6 a few yrs back but now that im getting divorced i want to get out of the 4x4 school run Vogue and dirty again....

Advice appreciated. I see a nice de-chromed grey rs6 on ebay and a blue one in autotrader..

Any comments !!

Thx guys

Hope to back in the beast soon.........

Remember, you become far more aware of negatives on these forums, if I posted every day that my car was running perfectly and I was delighted, A) I'd have written far more posts than I have, B) Everyone would be very bored of hearing it.

You've owned one, so you know a bit about what's what. As for prices, that's life I believe, everyone thinks their car is worth one amount, but what it sells for is usually something different. I am convinced my car is worth the £55,000 that I paid for it, but I've learnt to stop dreaming on that score, you're always dissapointed!

Buying one? Get a warranty, DON'T get a new wife, and enjoy it, they really are great cars.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

Well said Bob, for such a performance car they are very very reliable indeed. Imagine comparing with an Aston Martin DB9 or V8. Aside from DRC the car appears pretty bullet proof and not ridiculously expensive to run, particularly if your buying now after the savage depreciation has already run its course.

A number of people (including myself) have posted running costs on here a few times so have a look and set an approriate budget. At least your doing your homework now instead of some who have bought blindly and appeared on here and then advertise for sale a few months later because of cam belt or brakes etc.

RS6's are continuing to fall in price as now that they are beginning to pile on the miles and are coming out of warranty, they will be ridiculously expensive to run.
Even the smallest of jobs, eg EGT sensor, or starter motor, requires to drop the engine. So labour costs alone will kill you.
DRC and gearbox issues are very common, and very few aftermarket places will be willing to service these with the amount of specialist skills and tools required.
So basically you will be at the mercy of the main dealer.

Good luck with your hunt, just make sure you have the extended warranty !

Darryl,
I viewed the one at Duncan Hamiltons yesterday, even had a quick drive of it. its nice and is being prep`d this week for sale. I thnk its a grand or two over the top. Had a look at "cars of sunningdale" which is black and very nice - just reduced it yesterday to 29995

with a bit of driving around you should be able to pick one up from a dealer for a grand or 2 within that...which will include the Audi warranty for 1 year. For piece of mind, I wouldnt buy a >3 yr old one without it.

Mine just came back from a 60K service with nearly £4K of warranty work required - engine out to do a draveshaft seal and suspension
cheers

Is that something you noticed or was it picked up during the service inspection?
