IMO changing any part of the exhaust should then follow with a remap.

If just the CAT's were changed I'm not sure you're going to benefit much.

I did a previous car from sports exhaust, then 3 months later to a Full Exhaust system with De-cat along with a Re-Map and this did make a difference.

Get a cat back exhaust, remove the CAT's and replace with a straight. Put the CAT back on for the MOT, 4 bolts on each i think.

Personally, going on your post "Remap or exhaust" I would wait till you could do both at the same time.

I'm going to get mine done but want to wait a while, as the car is new to me i would like to get used to the noises, gear changes, drivability etc.
That way if i hear or feel something after the exhaust and Re-Map i know whether it's normal or not. (If you know what i mean)

Agreed with above... running race cats will allow the car to breath easier. Once the car is breathing easier you can maintain a level of boost, but get more air through the engine & with less back pressure you can run better ignition timing. So if the car is mapped after the exhaust is done you can really maximise the better flow rates & lesser backpressure maximise timing ensuring a more efficient burn, better economy and most importantly better power :D

If I was to do an exhaust I would always try and do the complete system. Cats and boxes.

And I would do it before a remap

Just noticed your sig (RS6 screw M5). That's funny & whenever you're ready :D :D

As you'd no doubt know, my car previous to my current E60 M5 was a 550BHP/560lbsft RS6 Saloon & i'm afraid to say both are exactly the same as regards performance (tried & tested at VAMX) so unless you have a 600BHP RS6 (which you don't) then your sig is just pure funny.

As for Sports Cats & the topic in hand, if you're looking at going the aftermarket Zorst route then a full system really is the only option. A Cat-Back only enhances the noise (slightly) & is a little more pleasing on the eye, but gains are very minimal. A Full system would open up about 15-20BHP & the same levels of Torque & the sound is even sweeter.

A decent re-map & full exhaust should get you to aroaund the 520BHP & 530lbsft mark.

It was a typo, i meant VMAX. That being an event organised usually over on Pistonheads for folk to hurl their machines down the 2 mile runway at Bruntingthorpe & see what VMAX they can achieve through the timing beams.

Sorry, I knew, was just being silly.

Waiting for Craig to let me know the dates for the next one this year. Looking forward to kicking some M5's down the straight.

Anyone know how I can get 700 bhp to put in my engine bay for a couple of grand, only need it for the day? :D

I'll look forward to that 8) You'll 1st need to have your mapping altered to remove the speed limiter or you'll be a very long way back stuck at 158MPH. A standard RS6 (limiter removed) can manage about 168-171MPH through the beams (same as an M3 CSL) & a mapped with sports zorst RS6 can reach about 175MPH. You need alot more power or drastic changes to the RS6's aerodynamics to reach the 180+ mark.

For the record the most i managed in my RS6 was 181MPH & that's exactly the same i managed in my DMS M5. The air flow is the biggest killer at those speeds, i'd need another 2-3miles to crack that magic 205MPH that's the genuine VMAX of a DMS M5.
