Easy tigers! no falling out needed.
Strangely, I will be dissapointed if they go for a 550bhp 5.2L TT'd engine. When you think about it, more and more manufacturers are kicking out engines that are just over the 100bhp per litre capacity. Audi have historically done well squeezing performance out of engines, but 550bhp from a 5.2L block is surely run of the mill nowadays. I would be far more impressed if they only marginally increased the beans to say 500bhp with an equally adequate and impressive torque figure, (which is a shed load of grunt to put a smile on your face everyday) but delivered this from a more efficient block, perhaps a 4.0L V10 that can rev for England!?
Also I wonder if there will be any gearbox options this time? They have more boxes available to them that can take the grunt.
Well done Audi, I would give a score of 4 out of 10 so far, must try harder...

The problem is that torque and BHP are related, so it is unusual to have both high-revs and high torque. Anyone know of any high-torque screamers? Whatever the gearbox, I'd like to hear an announcement about its maximum allowable torque figure (for tuning purposesSteveH wrote: I would be far more impressed if they only marginally increased the beans to say 500bhp with an equally adequate and impressive torque figure, (which is a shed load of grunt to put a smile on your face everyday) but delivered this from a more efficient block, perhaps a 4.0L V10 that can rev for England!?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Turbocharged 5.2 V10 anyone?
To be honest, the new RS6 isnt likely to be much lighter than the current model. With a noramlly aspirated engine you just wouldnt have enough torque at the bottom end to get thinsg moving .... so Turbo probably seems a good idea. Also, turbo cars are much more tunable .... 550bhp could quite easily be turned to 620 maybe. Also 4l V10 probably not enough, would need to go down the Merc route and plump for a 6.3l V8 mega monster if going normally aspirated route.
The looks so far really dont do it for me though ...... not for a car that is £70k+.

Well its rumoured that Audi has been testing this new engine at 650bhp+ maybe even 700bhp. I guess they are testing to see how much the engine can take after people start to chip and tune the car. If this is so then bloody hell!

Danke schön for the translation brooner.
I think the 5.2 V10 will be very tuneable.
Although I think the new S6 is slow for what it is, It has got very good low down torque because of the 5.2 V10. This coulped with twin turbos should be a very good combination.
I think out of that engine, Which already flows quite a bit anyhow, if they manage to make decent manifold we should be seeing over 600 and close to 620 hp on a remap and maybe more depending what turbo specification they will use. Hopefully they will concentrate on taking out as much lag as possible. As it will be competition for the M5, I can see it having a good 0-60, possibly around 4.2 to 4.5 seconds. And after 60 is when it will take off properly. This is obviously guessing what they will do compared to the what theyve done before.
They might just scrap things alltogether and just shuv a 6.0 v12 in there. If which they do, I will be utterly dissapointed. just as I was dissapointed with the RS4.
I do hope they bring it out with a manual gear box. would be nice for a change. Its not a luxury car. Its supposed to be a drivers car. If someone wants an auto bos, then thats what the A8 range is for.

600bhp with a remap would be fine...with a <beep> load of torque of course...new S6 is heavier than current RS6 anyway....so the new RS6 probably as heavy still
...nice family wagon....but I wont be buying one until they are least 2 years old
