Quite a fun site - you can do a virtual "race" too between loads of cars.

Great site, why does the B5 RS4 do so badly? In the 'race' with a VW R32 its a draw!!

Autocar say a standard RS6 gets from 0-30 in 1.7 seconds. It should be noted that the McLaren F1 manages it in a frankly lethargic 1.8 seconds.

Hmmm so by that rekoning I could take on anything at the lights? Nice to know in advance, I'm a bad loser... How do you do that 'launch control' thingy again?

With a Plus I wouldn't worry about launch control - just stick your foot down! The problem occurs after 30mph, though, when the F1 (and others, to be honest) pull ahead somewhat. The F1 will be at 100mph in just over 6 seconds, whereas we are looking at pretty much double that. If it was wet though...!

out of interest why is it sooo quick over that initial period? All down to gearing? I've been coerced into going to Snata Pod on 21st May, so may give it a pop... Anyone else been/going?

It's all about traction, I suspect. The F1 is, of course, rear-wheel drive. Not only that, it has gigantic torque and so getting it off the line cleanly is probably quite hard (haven't tried it myself yet!). In an RS6, even with the traction control off it won't lose grip under full throttle in 1st gear (which goes to about 42mph). Also, you just select Drive, build up a few revs (remebering the peak torque is at just under 2000rpm, so you don't have to concern yourself with the engine 'bogging down' as you pull away) and go for it. This makes it not only quicker than an F1 and others to 30mph, but more consitent as well. You would be very lucky to get near the 1.8 seconds in an F1, whereas in the RS6, 1.7 seconds is a realistically acheivable time.
Interestingly, the RS2 holds the 0-30mph record (shared with a Caterham R500 I think) of 1.5 seconds. Autocar (again) said that when timing the car they phoned Audi and asked how they should approach getting the best figures from the car. They were told to select first gear, build the revs up to the limiter and drop the clutch. I imagine this was fairly brutal to expirence but it's a testament to the mechanics of the car the over ten years later the record still stands.
Good luck at Santa Pod - you should be able to embarrass a fair few people who think they own quick cars. And if they do beat you, just pull over and watch the TV...

Wouldn't be too cocky about going to santa pod, most there run 13 seconds and less, the 0-100 of a standard rs6 is 11.3 and a normal driver will post a time in the 13's.Chipped rs6 is between 10-11 seconds, probably a low 13.

I have clocked a best of 13.02 secs and terminal speed of 173.66km/hr at local strip here in perth, western australia on a tuning night in stock rs6, 19" wheels, premium unleaded 98ron.32,000kms, ambient temp 17.5C.
launch routine- aircon off,esp off, no torque braking, just nail it on green. consistent ave time is 13.1-13.4 secs with 173km/hr terminal speed.
I have found that the first run is always the best as heat soak results in subsequent lower times.
An rs6+ should be able to break into the high twelves, I would suggest.

forgot to add run in S or move into tiptronic to grab first and leave it there. Shifting the tiptronic or using the paddles has no effect as S mode transmission program overuns everything.
So best leave it in S and hang onto the wheel. Take off in D adds 0.3 secs to time.
As there are only three RS6's in western australia, most people take it for a standard audi A6 until time flashes up. I love the stealth nature of the beast.
The RS6 is normally the fastest stock 4 door sedan at the strip at these tuning nights ( except rare occasion when amgE55 and new M5 are there- they run regular 12.6 secs!)
PS your reply shows hidden poetic skills!

Santa Pod tends be slower than other tracks due to the amount of glue on the surface.
