I've seen a cabelt snap on one, and that engine found its way on to ebay. And piston heads i think.
I've seen and driven loads now and they are bullet proof. Except for the gearboxes.....

Ash, do you know if there is a difference between my gearbox and the standard one? Presume it's the same hardware, has it effectively just been remapped? If so, is it therefore under more strain than normal or has it been manufactured/tweaked to cope?
Just wondered... or mwcltd, do you know as you have had yours "upgraded?
Ta!

Bob
I am told the remap for the gearbox just adjusts the torque limiting parameters. This allows the box to take more torque and as such it will 'allow' it to change quicker.
The 6+ is a mild remap and it wouldn't need the gearbox remapped. My MTM remap is similar and hasn't had the gearbox played with. For me the 490bhp is enough without risking the gearbox for 10-20bhp more. And 10-20bhp can more than be made up for by skillful driving

I have never had an Audi engine, gearbox or drive train replaced since I started with Audi in 1983. My current RS6+ has been modified to 540BHP and 550lbft of torque. The gearbox firmware was updated but they did notice at QST that the RS6+ gearbox had a different caseing to the RS6 gearbox. I have always had my cars service by a franchised audi dealer and have kept them for up to 70k miles. All of the cars have been modified, initially by David Sutton motorsport and then by QST using MTM products. I have been told about the close working relationship between Audi and MTM and for me their solutions are a safe bet.
With the MTM upgrades to the engine and gearbox firmware it is not possible to detect the upgrades using the standard Audi diagnostic equipment. If you started with a standard Audi then upgraded the firmware you would tell by the massive increase in torque and the faster gearchanges when using manual mode.

Informative as ever thank you guys. Just out of interest, mwcltd how did your modifications affect your warranty? Presume you've had a new exaust, is one available in black per the 6+? Oh and if you're ever heading down the M40, please pop in, I'd love to see the difference!

Before I bought my car I looked at a Mugello Blue Avant in a small private dealers in Hitchin. It had similar mileage and recent engine replacement. Car looked like it had done 50k miles plus as was a little shabby. price was still £37k+ i think. It looked like it had been realier from a rear shunt but may have been just untidy.
Could this have been yours RS6MugBlu. It had silver leather.

Bob, we're suppose to check the coding of the gearbox ECU during diagnosis. If the coding has been wiped, or its a totally different number then its probably been re mapped. Voiding the warranty! Whether we take any action or not is dependant on how many donuts the owner buys us!!
All the cars i've replaced gearboxes on have been driven hard (confirmed by owners) and been at around 40k.
Damon Hills performance car club P1 international have an RS6 Avant on there fleet and i've changed that one too!
No need to ask if that one had been driven hard!!!

Mine had a full gearbox replacement at 18 months old / 20K miles. The 2hd gearbox was noticeably stronger than the 1st.
Can't comment on engines, as i've never known of an RS6 with a replacement engine, but replacement geraboxes are fairly common. It's defo the weakest link.
