After months and months of looking at rs4's to replace my ageing e34 M5 I finally took the plunge, took out a loan, and promptly spent it on a 52 plate, ebony black rs6 avant.
Problem is the car's warranty has now expired, I don't want to renew it and I'd rather pay specialist rates than stealership rates when any work needs doing. Does anyone know of a good specialist within a 50 mile radius of sheffield?

Nope. It's from an independant called Specialist Cars near Selby.
They said they would be happy to do any work needed in the future, but they usually work on porsche, ferrari and bmw M-power cars.
I really need someone who has experience of replacing the dampers as it feels as though the NSR may be on the way out.

I would consider getting an extended warranty.

The dampers on RS6's are know to weep/fail. Do a search and you will find it and how much it might cost. You might find the warranty doesn't cost much more and you'll then be covered for other things.

Mine is in at the mo having the Sat Nav replaced and front dampers refilled. The cost of this alone is more than the warranty fee.

Might be worth a try, they may not spot it. As long as the inspection is done beforre you hand over money you've got nothing to loose.

You should be ok to renew warranty. Only if it expires 10 months or more are they sceptical to renew IIRC. Its not your fault its expired as you've just bought the car so shouldn't be penalised.

Warranty is like paying up front for man hours if a warrantable component fails or needs replaced PLUS they cover the cost of an entire new engine if it lets go. So it works like an insurance policy, gives you peace of mind, avoids additional unexpected costs and if the does hit the fan you wont be left with just yer in yer hand. Just extended mine for the second time. Viva Mondial.

I think this may need a bit of thought.

That sounds like a feck of a lot, I'd try somewhere else. Lots of third party ones around, don't know how you'd get on with Mondial (which is what Audi use and put their name on it) if you approached them directly. Anyway, I have two years warranty with Listers Audi, who have their 'own' policy. They are considered very RS savvy and have a good reputation, maybe worth a call. They've just sold me my RS6+, and you could give them a call and speak to Claire Garness if you like, mention my name by all means. 01905 421000

I would really argue the toss here considering your position buying a preloved car and get them to confirm their policy on lapsed warranty issues with you perhaps through HQ customer services.
Also be careful when considering other policies that you are comparing apples with apples.

Re the damper issue, my car has just had these changed and comes out of warranty in May. I was told by the tech that the official line from Audi is that there is no design fault with the dampers, but they are providing goodwill gestures for out of warranty cars
