Can someone tell me what year the RS6 change over to a DVD based system rather than the cd based one?

I think late 2004/ early 2005, but there are not many around with RNS-E's installed.
Easy enough to upgrade one to DVD though

I had mine upgraded at the weekend and I have to say it is one of the nicest upgrades you can do to the RS6.
The Nav is a huge improvement on the old one and looks great. You can also combine it with the bluetooth phone upgrade and tv/mp3/media player options for added bling factor.
Craig did the whole job for me in just over 2 hours and the workmanship was amazing. Much cleaner than my Audi dealer could have done. He's also a nice guy to boot and will even offer you a sandwich if you're lucky. Highly recommended!!
Going for the media player next....

Don't know the answer to your question Tweaky but my 6+ has it, as do they all. It's better than the CD version I had in my RS4 but still has no TMC option. My wife's Espace has TMC and it is very good. Hope it will be available in DVD soon.

According to ETKA, the RNS-E was fitted from chassis number 4B4N901201. This would put the production changeover sometime in January 2004. However, ETKA only lists the RNS-E for the Avant - apparently the Saloons all had CD-based systems.
However, as others have said, earlier cars (and saloons) can be easily upgraded to the later systems - I upgraded mine in June this year.
I find that the RNS-E is superior in all respects - except for the lack of TMC availability in the UK.
Edited to add:
If anyone can confirm or disprove this information by quoting their chassis number/body style/Nav+ fitment, I would be interested to hear.
