Privacy glass

Post by Tweaky » Fri Oct 21, 2005 8:03 am

I am looking at buying an RS6 at the moment, but most of them seem to have the privacy glass option fitted, which i don't like as it is only done on the back windows for some reason. I assume that this tint is actually in the glass, and not just a coating applied like after market tiniting? So if tis is the case there is no easy way to get rid of it, apart from replacing windows which would be a costly road to go down?

Mine came with Privacy glass & i'm fairly sure it was factory fitted. It's just a plastic coating on the inside of the windows, much the same as you'd get aftermarket. Mine is fortunate enough to have the privacy glass on all the side windows as well as the back window & i think it sets the car off well.

If it's the same, you should be able to just have it removed by the dealer. Can only imagine it's a 5 min job.

All the cars i have seen have the tinted windows on the back and side rear windows, but the front side windows aren't tinted, and it just looks a but strange to me..i suppose there would be nothing stopping you getting the tinted as well, perhaps not quite as dark as the rears, so it appears to fade out. Hmm food for thought.

it can be removed but it does create a mess. better to get the specialists to remove it or as you say fit a lower % to the front two passenger doors.

If you are UK based beware that rules do apply and I beleive have been tightened recently.

I know a good company in St.Albans if you are near.
