Boost cut / power loss

Post by Rupert » Sun Sep 25, 2005 12:00 pm

Hello folks,

Yesterday I experienced a loss of power in my 2004 RS6. It is standard, and was running on Tesco 99 RON at the time. Yesterday was 19 degrees C.
I accelerated away from traffic lights, but when the revs hit 5k, the power dropped to what felt like <300bhp. This power loss continued for a while before returning to normal power below 5k, but the power loss would return if I used full acceleration through 5k. I put two quantities of petrol in the tank yesterday - £25 of BP ultimate, after which the problem was still there, and £35 of Optimax with about 3/4 can of OB, after which the problem disappeared (yes I did allow time for the higher octane petrol to reach the engine).

Has anyone else experienced this, at such low ambient temperatures? I'm not sure if it was due to dodgy petrol - the first 4/5ths of the tank were fine.

I experienced this once before, but put it down to driving like a pussy for about 500 miles before dropping off the wife and starting to drive like a man again
Thanks.

I've got exactly the same problem. I've only just got the RS6, this is only my second tank of fuel, first tank was Sainsbury's standard and I filled up with BP Ultimate and ever since it's felt completely dead. The gearbox doesn't know what to make of it either, it accelerates to about 3500rpm and then changes down!!!

Anyone else had issues with BP Ultimate?

For info, I visited the BP garage in Egham.

I'm just about to do a 400ml round trip so I'll get chance to see what happens with different petrol and let you know.

OK, 400mls later, unfortunately I had to settle for Total standard petrol so still only running on 95RON and 150mls into this tank the performance is back!!

All smiles in the drivers seat and scared looks from all the others!!!

At over a £1 per litre I think I'm going to give the BP Ultimate a miss from now on.
