Paintwork problem with RS6
Paintwork problem with RS6
Folks, I am looking for some help on how best to approach this problem. I have a 2002 RS6 avant in avus whcih has had no accidents or paintwork- or so I thought. I noticed that the lacquer was peeling off around the roof rail on the nearside rear wing. Having contacted my local dealer (not the dealer who sold it to me), I had a specialist to view the car who advised that he was certain that both rear wings had been (albeit expertly) repainted and conconsequently it was not a VAG issue and that I should talk to the dealer who supplied the car (I bought it second hand from an Audi Dealer at X-mas). That dealer whilst initially being positive and asking me to get an estimate for the work is now not returning my calls. I have also noticed that the other wing is showing very minor signs of the lacquer flaking off. I have checked with the pevious owner and he confirmed that there had never been any paintwork done. I have contacted Audi Customer care who wanted the dealer to sort it rather than get involved but the fact is I do not have the time chasing around after various groups who will not own the problem- a bit gaulling since I spent £40k on the car ( mind you I had a TVR Tuscan previously so this is a mere bagatel compared to the problems with that car!!). Interestingly Audi CC told me that if the car had been repainted between the ship and the dealer then they would have no record of it so you could find that you have a brand new car with an invalid paint warranty!!!Could it be that using a pressure wash is too aggressive for the paint? Anyway has anyone got any thoughts on how to proceed
RE: Paintwork problem with RS6
Not sure which dealership you bought the car from but you should find the most senior name in aftersales for the entire group that you can. Write to him and cc a copy to your contact at the dealership. The latter will be under pressure to sort it out and look good (or avoid looking bad) in front of his boss... Detail the fact that youhave already been asked to get a quote etc so why the lack of communication? You have spent 40k and want at least a contribution to the cost...
I did exactly this with a paint issue MANY months after buying my car. Surprise surprise I got a favourable result. Good luck. PS I wouldn't expect a pressure washer to harm paintwork, unless it's a 4000 psi being used from an inch away!

Interestingly I phoned the dealership this morning and yet again did not get a call back-until I aksed the receptioniist for the name of the MD and explained that I would be writing to him to ask him personally to sort out the problem since the head of sales was not doing anything. I got a call within 30 mins from the chap who had been unable to call me all last week and the problem now appears to be sorted. I do however think they were working on the basis that if they did not contact me I would just go away. So now atleast it is going to be sorted without too much further agro.
From my experience of so-called prestige dealers, a Porsche dealer were the worst, followed a close second by an Audi dealer. This is the crazy bit..... one of the best dealers I ever experienced was Alfa Romeo!!! Work that one out??
