RS6/RS6+ Brake System Failure Indicator

I have had my RS6+ for a year and 9 times out of 10, when I start the car and select a gear, the Brake System Failure Indicator flashes three times. I was told that this was a battery problem and to basically ignore it. The other day my car was in for a service and the mechanic at Wakefield Audi noticed that the switch on the brake fluid reservoir was cracked and water had entered the switch. They replaced the switch and now I have no problems when the gear is selected. I wonder how many other cars out there have this problem?

I had the same problem and had the whole unit changed by the dealer and it seems to have fixed it.

How bizarre. I've had this happen about 3 or 4 times now, but only since about June this year & was going to post something on here last week.

I went into my local dealers about it earlier this week, but they found no fault registered on their diagnostic machine, so could not fix anything. They did give the entire brake system a good check over, but as the car has only just had new discs & pads fitted all round, their were no obvious faults found after inspection.

The service manager did mention they'd experienced problems in A4's with this happening & the problem was a sensor located too close to the battery, so he said this could be the problem, until i reminded him that the RS6 battery is in the boot.

I'm leaving it for now, but if it happens again, i'll mention your findings.

I have also noticed that I had the same 3 warning bleeps on start up. They tend to be sporadic on start up. I honestly did not think anything of it, but I have now mentioned it to the Audi garage and they are ordering a new brake fluid reservoir with switch!

My local dealer has now decided that the problem is most likely a signal issue to the DIS, as a certain wiring loom was not aligned correctly when my gearbox was replaced & was causing a mixed signal to some sensor. They moved the loom slightly & it's now a fair distance from the sensor receiving cable & so far the problem has not returned.

I/we can't be positive that was the problem, but as it aint happened again since the move & the dealer had asked Audi UK Technical for a possible solution, we may be on to something & possibly another reason for this fault.

I'll post up if it happens again.
