Hello and a Question

First off i'd like to say a big hi to everyone. I've just bought a 04 RS6 Avant (Misano Red) after realising my S4 Avant was just a little too small.
My question is this, how do you know if you have the DVD version of the satnav? The car i bought had the battery removed when i went back to check so i couldn't verify it, it does say Navigation Plus on the screen tho.
Would be nice to know as im thinking of getting a DVD changer so i can put some music dvd's in.

I don't think that the sat nav being DVD or CD-ROM makes a difference to whether you can connect a DVD changer to your head unit - it should already have the correct inputs to allow you to connect a DVD player ... see this post on AW -

Dans Nav+ site has been pulled for some reason - this was easily the most informative site on the net for Nav+ queries ...

I was more interested in finding if i had crap nav or good nav and then starting the search to replace it with the DVD one

Try ejecting the disc in the headunit and see if it is a CD_ROM or DVD??

Coincidentally, I also own an 04 RS6 Avant in Misano Red and mine is a CDROM based unit, so I suspect yours will be too. As far as I know, the DVD system was only fitted from approx 54 plate onwards, but I stand to be corrected.
As stated above, you can pretty much get most changer's to work with either headunit anyway.

Can you fit the DVD based system? That is, just swap them over?

Funnily enough, I looked at doing exactly the same thing a few weeks ago (following the failure of my CD system). I was advised that it 'should' be a question of simply unplugging the CDROM headunit and plugging the new DVD one in, but would stress the key word being 'SHOULD'. I don't know of anyone who has actually done it, so you could find yourself (and your car) being a bit of a guinea pig!!!
FYI, my CDROM headunit ended up being changed under warranty and they told me the CD ROM headunit costs between £1500 and £2000. So, for the DVD one, I suspect you are talking big money. I doubt you will find one in a scrapyard - but you never know.
All the best

I swapped min about three weeks ago. Not difficult, but it is worth buying a decent plug and play adapter from someone like Kufatec. Do be aware that the TV tuner will also need to be changed - the CAN bus interface is different between the tuners for the CD-based and DVD-based Nav+.

The units do pop up on ebay fairly regularly, many of them from Poland - supposedly from wrecked cars!
My total spend has been just under £900, and I'm now in the process of selling my old kit.
