I am thinking of having my RS tuned and would like the opinions of anybody who owns or has owned an RS6 and had their car tuned by one of the following companies. I'm not interested in changing my exhaust, just purely engine tuning/re-mapping etc.

AmD, QST, APR, DMS, REVO, WEST.

Why did they choose that company ?
Advantages/disadvantages of each company ?
Any problems since the installation ?
How detectable is it from a dealerships viewpoint ?
What warranty issues are there, what's invalidated ?
Any disadvantages ? lumpy engine, flatspots etc ?
Was the gearbox any better ?
Did fuel consumption go up or down ?
Will it affect re-sale value ?
Who's best ?

Finally, please share your experiences of the power increase and what it meant to you, good, bad or indifferent.

I know there are lots of questions, but it would help me if you are able to answer some of them and also make good reading for members/visitors in the future.

its always a good idea to look around the site before asking such general questions. After some background reading you will be able to ask more specific questions which may produce useful answers.
If I read you correctly - you are looking for a stealth software upgrade that the dealer can't detect and the next owner who buys your car will not know that it has been modified.

As said above, their are many threads on here from people who have modified their RS6.

Basically all the main RS tuning companies have been mentioned & all appear to have a good reputation.

I went for AmD, as they had worked on my previous car (S8) & they are well know in Audi circles. My 1st venture was engine/gearbox re-map & a Milltek sports zorst (cat-back).

Since then, i've gone a little silly & changed the springs, intercoolers, engine & gearbox cooling systems, air intakes & piping etc. etc.

The differences in the re-maps is mainly delivery of the power. All appear to tkae the power up to the 500BHP mark & make the gearbox react/handle better.

Final point is that all the RS6 re-maps i'm aware of are stealth, as they use the Audi ecu & no Audi technician is qualified to dissmantle an ecu. That said, the difference in power & performance is fairly noticeable.

I would like to comment however, that I have searched this site, RS6.COM, AudiSport, Tyresmoke and Pistonheads as well as visiting the sites of all the companies mentioned above to glean information, but felt that I wanted to hear unbiased stories from people who may have been in the same situation as I find myself and wanted to share their experiences and they could probably answer most of my questions in one go, rather than interpret an answer from a thread posted 12 months ago. Also I think this thread could be a good starting point for current/future RS6 owners to sift through without having to search high and low as I have been doing.

Yes, good point, I'm visiting my dealer today to pick the Wife's car up, they have a good relationship with AmD so I'll try and pick their brains and may even get offered a slightly cheaper price than going direct to AmD.

I have had extensive experience of MTM upgrades fitted by QS Tuning. They have a four wheel drive rolling road and the recent MTM upgrade to my RS6+ did exactly as it stated on the tin. MTM do have a very close relationship with Audi in Germany which was one of the reasons why I always go for their upgrades.

Thanks everybody for the replies, I'm holding back at the present, I haven't decided what to do. I have had an M3 coupe on order since Oct 04 and may decide to buy the new RS4 to keep me going until the M3 comes out, but I want to test drive the Audi first.

I don't want to spend thousands on RS6 upgrades and then sell the car.

I like the RS6 but having run M3's for 6.1/2 years, I prefer smaller "fun" cars, I don't need a car this big.

and I'm fed up with the brakes squealing like a Blackpool tram..............
