am very happy with my truck, but ride is hard.
now i want to lower it i think, as i like the mean look, possible even widen the track to give it an even more aggressive look..
thinking just a spring kit, ie h and r,
who else has done it, and what are there thoughts of doing so, comparing ride and handling from before to after...
bear in mind its an avant, as im not sure if that makes any difference..
rs6 avant suspension
Re: rs6 avant suspension
During my last round of modifications (Sportec goodies), i decided to take the plunge & get the springs replaced which not only firmed up the ride under spirited & track conditions, but lowered the car about 20mm (lowering was not the reason i had the springs fitted). I opted for Sportec springs, which were co-developed with H&R specifically for the RS6 (bear in mind the RS6 has electronic damping). The work was done at AmD & IIRC the price was £600ish.jonathonturner wrote:am very happy with my truck, but ride is hard.

1st Photo is with Stock springs http://www.tyresmoke.net/gallery/albut47/Audi_RS6_1
2nd Photo is with new Sportec/H&R springs http://www.tyresmoke.net/gallery/albut47/Audi_RS6_23
If you look through the gallery in detail, you'll find a variety of photos.

RE: Re: rs6 avant suspension
thanks mate. q/ does the avant not have self levelling suspension, therefore not allowing you to change just the springs, as it would technically just try and compensate for the lower springs and knacker everything up?
secondly how does it affect the ride in normal driving...i.e motorways etc? is it any firmer than it already was?
if so, i might no bother, as its firm enough as it is...
thanks
Jonathon

I can't say for sure if the Avant has a different suspension system than the saloon, but i'm 99% sure it doesn't & therefore does not have self levelling suspension. That kind of toy is usually only found on soft roaders, real load lugger estate cars or very high end luxury models, but i think to maintain performance the RS6 only had the (unique at the time)Electronic Damping Control (EDC).
EDC only alters the damper levels when one or more wheels appears to be lifting to high, therefore compensating & making sure the car remains under control. New springs would not alter the EDC in the slightest & in fact the SPortec springs were designed specifically to work with the RS6's EDC, hence they're almost twice the price of normal sports springs.
As regards road manner, the ride is defo no harder, but body role is almost totally eliminated under spirited driving & track driving, thus giving the car a much tighter feel on the road.
In my opinion, the ride is greatly improved with the Sportec springs, but its not so much softened, just a more sensible handling set-up. Most of my driving is 200 miles runs down south & i much prefer the ride quality now under all conditions.
