This might seem a daft question, but then I'm a daft person.

How can you tell whether you have a tyre pressure monitoring system fitted to the car, I've checked in the handbook and it is used in conjunction with the centre console menu button. Well I can't get this button to work so I assume that I haven't got the pressure monitoring system. However, since I recently took off a front wheel (to paint the inside of the wheel, but that's another story another day) and since the weather has got warmer, when I switch on the ignition there is a single bleep and the display shows a yellow tyre with a question mark but shows all four values, i.e. FL,FR,RL,RR etc not just one, it eventually goes out as I am driving home. This never happens in the morning, only after work when the car has been standing all day.

All of the tyre pressures are ok.

Has anybody got any ideas ?

Your car will have tpms. The menu button should work when car is stationary, although i think if a major fault is logged it will not work untill this has been rectified.

My menu works when the car is stationary or moving. ALl RS6's IIRC have the menu/DIS function & although not positive, i'm pretty sure the tyre pressure monitoring is also standard. I've had the warning a few times & indeed the pressures have been slightly lower than they should be. I've only ever had all tyres displayed as i don't think the system can determine or show if only 1 tyre is the wrong pressure.

Its possible that your's has not been set-up correctly, so perhaps a trip back to the dealer is in order, although the handbook does detail how to set-up the warning system.

i had the same problem re. the button when i first got mine. press it where it says menu rather than pressing the actual knob.

re the pressures it is giving you the warning because of a change in atmospheric pressure due to the weather - on the occasion that all four values show up i dont normally worry about it -as you say they go off after a while. alternatively go to your dealer and he can show you how to reset although you can do this yourself once you have mastered the menu button!!

Well, you learn something new everyday, I didn't even know there was a switch where it says "menu" I've had a quick play during my lunchbreak and it seems that I do have a menu.

I've just been using it as a mount for a car kit microphone and was really wondering why they'd bothered putting a redundant knob where a really useful slot was. Should have read the manual a bit better!

In my experience you will soon know you have them fitted because they flash on all the time for no reason!
I just ignore it and check the pressures regularly.

I agree with the above, just check the pressure's regularly using the old fashioned method!!

Mine have been disabled in the menu anyway.

Not sure how Audi have configured the system to work on their cars, but the TPMS ecu will have to carry out a learn function form time to time. This may de done automatically or manually by pressing a button on the dash.

When the TPMS carries out a learn function, it will store the pressures of all 4 wheels and determine which wheels are fitted to which corners of the car. If it then detects a pressure loss below a pre programmed threshold ie puncture, a warning will show on the dash.

If a learn function is not performed regularly then false warnings will be given ie after you have inflated or deflated your tyres.
