New RS6 avant owner

Post by DrB » Mon May 02, 2005 2:49 pm

I was very sad to say goodbye to my 1998 S4 saloon 2 weeks ago. I had owned it for 3 and a half years and it was fantastic! (Mike I hope you are taking care of it!). Anyway, finally jumped in and bought a '53' mugello Blue RS6 Avant. I bought it in Heathrow yesterday and drove back to Aberdeen. What a car! I wasn't sure how much of a difference in speed or power I would feel, but wow!
I am still al ttle unsure of the tiptronic gearbox though. I am sure in time I will get used to it and prefer it. It is strange only having 5 gears with so much power.
Are there any tips or things I sould know?Everything is great in the car but I do need to get new tyres.

Well done Mark and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Seemingly lots of RS cars in Aberdeen, look forward to seeing the pics.

Cheers MartynC

I'm guessing they're refering to a re-map which constitutes a re-map to the standard engine ECU giving roughly 40-50BHP gains, whilst at the same time the gearbox ECU is re-mapped is make it sharper, change up at slightly higher revs & generally behave in a more sporty fashion.

The gearbox re-map may well be available without an engine re-map, but i've no idea where you could get this done.

You can notice the difference in the gearbox behaviour after its been re-mapped & it kind of feels lke it performs more how nature intended.

I have to say that after spending a large amount of money on my car, I would be in a rush to chip the car, as it will not only increase my insurance premium, but invalidate my Audi Warranty. Maybe later.

The car is #@?#ing fast anyway!

Is it like being in sport mode all of the time ?

Not really, as their is still quite a difference in power & gear holding between normal drive mode & sports mode. The re-map for the box just makes the changes a little smoother & more responsive.
