Urgent DRAMA - Discs buggered after 11k miles
Urgent DRAMA - Discs buggered after 11k miles
Hi Guys
I Just need some feedback here - pretty urgent too I'm in discussion with Audi over this one.
I Have an RS6 Saloon, it currently is showing 15k miles on the clock, and from around 11000 miles it has been developing a "scoring" on the discs. The car has drilled discs which at an upgrade costs of £600 were supposed to reduce wear and improve responsiveness. Audi are currently telling me that this is standard "wear-Tear" item and that above 6000 miles they will not replace under warranty. They argue that the wear is due to stones, etc. Which I would accept if the discs hadn't worn in EXACTLY the same way on both side.
I need to know on average how many miles you guys are getting to a set - are you heavy or light on the brakes? My RS4 before did a good 40000miles before it even showed signs of needing new discs and it was driven in exactly the same way as the rs6, and only weighed 200kg less. The back discs are fine and wearing normally.
Why is everything difficult when dealing with Audi?! Tell you what though - funny I should find 6 identical "intelligent" stones which find there way into the same places on each disc!

Quite frankly Boff im not surprised, as the whole brake thing on those cars are a joke
It was discussed at the seminar at the RSDC03 at Hockenheim, even Frank Biela had to stop going around cos they just wernt up to rhe job, do yourself a favour and get yourself a decent set of MoVits , dont think you will have problems after that.
Cheers

My first set of discs cracked after about 11k miles (noticed them around 11.5k), they were warranty replaced at about 13k when I could get booked in. My service manager was of the opinion that a set of discs should last longer than 11k.
That took me up to 28k when they were all changed, but even then they were only all done because a rear pad had got too thin between checks and had cracked and badly scored the rear nearside disc, all four discs and pads were close enough to dead to warrant doing at once.
I'm not exactly light-footed on the brakes, I regularly drive on winding country roads and make "big stops". IMHO, the brakes are OK for either occasional high speed stops while cruising or general cross-country work where you're not on them every few seconds. They are just not suitable for track work or a road where you're on them constantly.
If I were you I'd keep arguing for warranty repair. Good luck!

Quite similar situation here.
I called them about it in jan but could only get it in about 2k miles later. Now they are saying it's happened at 15k
Thanks for your advice guys - any further comments appreciated!

Bof
Regard this as an opportunity.
A nice trip to Alsace, the Black Forest and Baden Baden. Have Guido sort out your brakes and then sample the absolutely fabulous food and wine in Alsace. On your way back, you can stock up in Champagne.
Whats not to like?

PS see my reply in http://www.rs6.com/ also if you do a search there, you will find detailed explanations of the reasons why the stock brakes are nbg.

So long as you have a good relationship with your dealer, you can get a lot done under warranty that would otherwise be put down to wear and tear.I've just rejected the S4 now you are giving me misgivings about the 6!
You need to remember that for the price, the RS 6 is one hell of a performer - almost supercar acceleration and I think reasonably good handling for it's bulk. I doubt high-performance cars from any other manufacturer are totally devoid of warranty issues and high running costs.
It will be interesting to see how the Maserati Quattroporte fairs for reliability, it's the nearest thing yet to a Ferarri luxury barge.

Re: Urgent DRAMA - Discs buggered after 11k miles
Just had my rear discs and pads changed at 10k Been complaining since 5k about unusual noise from brakes to be told dirt on the pads. Would have them cleaned and before I even left the Audi garage noise was back.
Eventually somebody listened to me and admitted there was a problem, which was the pads disintingrating, then I got a lecture over track day use, pads running at 2000 degrees C, basically crap becuase thye have a problem and wont acknowledge it.
