Pre-owned RS6 in Dealer Network

Post by martian » Fri Nov 21, 2003 2:01 pm

Only 38 pre-owned cars in 115 dealers?- and only one under £50k.
Still no sign of the 'glut and massive depreciation'.

John- that's down 12 from the 50 six weeks ago , and with new ones hitting the market every week as well!
I think the great PR you've been doing must finally be paying dividends

Whether it's a lot or not probably depends on how many there are in the UK in total. Does anyone have this figure - my guestimate is around 800.

I guess the crux of the matter is the supply vs demand issue. The RS4 was always limited and as long as every car had a taker it was always going to hold reasonably high.

The RS46(like the M3?) always struck me as unlimited with the tap just being turned on more based on demand. On that basis you are bound to always order a new one rather than buy second hand unless you are an impulse purchaser!

Of course I maybe wrong but it is how it seems to be. Audi of course control the tap and therefore their dealers so I think you are safe for some time!

Robert.

And dont forget that the "tap" will be shut off forever in 6 - 12 months. Maybe values will firm up then.

Less I think - somethig to do with not meeting new emissions regs? Is that right, or is that an Americanism that they've assumed is applicable globally?

I believe that production for European delivery (and SA, Oz etc?) will continue into the new year. AFAIAA, any RS6 (with current emission characteristics) built later than 31 December 2003 will not be allowed onto American roads.

However, I think it unlikely that RS6 production will continue past the point that production of the C6 range begins (since the RS6 begins its life on the production line as an S6 variant). Suggestions are that delivery of the C6 will begin sometime around the middle of 2004. This implies that RS6 production will only continue for another few months (3 - 6?). A replacement RS6 won't arrive for a few years - probably not until the new RS4 has been and gone.

They were building the last ones when we were at Neckersulm 2 weeks ago, majority wer heading for USA as they had problems with emissions so said the guy at Quattro, btw did you know that they are only doing the front end and rear end in the quattro factory, the rest is assembles in Ingolstadt
Final test and quality control is also done at Neckersulm alond with Audi Exclusive interiors.

Tell me more. I was led to understand that the RS6 starts its life on the A6 production line (which is at Neckersulm), as an S6 ( but with the Transmission tunnel cut out and replaced), then gets driven across the works to the quattro facility for completion by hand. What gets done at Ingolstadt?

Also, are you saying that all RS6 production will finish this year, or only the US production?

Well firstly RS6 production at Neckersulm finishes because they will start getting ready for RS4 production in the new year, i was also led to believe that these are the last to be made ever!!!!!!!
Also we saw fully working cars coming off the trailers from Ingolstadt without fronts or rears being driven into the Quattro factory ready for the next stage.
Unfortunately they wouldnt let us take pictures

That's what was in an Audi Magazine (or was it Audi Driver?) article before they launched in the UK. Perhaps production demands meant it became necessary to part-manufacture in multiple factories and finish off on quattro's line?

I'm pretty sure the A6/S6/RS6 is made at Neckarsulm, along with A2, A8, and some other interesting vehicles..... Only saw TT shells on transporters (Not Porsche, Tim!!).

What amazed me was the method they used for adding the exclusive line of interiors. Rather than pulling a car off the production line with little or no interior already fitted in, they use a fully completed car from the main factory and then take it all to bits again to fit the exclusive interiors.

Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.
