Hello. Thought I'd join this forum. Lucky old me - I've recently acquired an RS6. Absolutely chuffed with it. Goes like a bird. I have one question though. Is there an issue with using Optimax? A friend mentioned that some owners had encountered problems.

Im not 100% sure that there was a problem.... maybe Audi just updated the ECU.

AmD have had several cars which were damaged by using Optimax. For whatever reason (I assume the risk of getting their arse sued by Shell) Audi won't release a notice.

The bottom line is don't use it.

I hadn't heard of this one - any more info? Does this apply just to RS6, or any car?

I'd just started using Optimax, having not touched Shell petrol since the problems with their 'new formula' in the late eighties.

So, where am I supposed to get this 98RON petrol which Audi say I should use in my car?

I'd be interested to hear more abou that too - as peterb says, where are you supposed ot get 98 ROM petrol from then, if not from Shell?

You sure it wasn't 95 RON fuel that fecked up Amd's RS 6's? I hear from a tanker driver than it's not entirely unknown for regular unleaded to go in the Optimax tanks if there's no way of getting Optimax...

"Audi AG have stated that RS6's will run the risk of damaging valves on the wrong fuel, please use only 97 octane fuel, do not use anything else eg optimax specifically, they have several cars at the moment suffering from incorrect fuel damage." info from A-S.net admin.
