Cosworth retuned the S4 into the RS4.

Who tuned the RS6, Audi Alone ? Anyone help them like Cosworth ?

According to one of the press articles it was a combination of Quattro GmbH, Audi AG and BorgWarner Turbo Systems. No mention of Cosworth or any other specialist.

My understanding, as an ex-RS6 owner, is that the basic engine is delivered to Cosworth in the UK to be built into the twin turbo RS6 unit. These are then shipped back to Quattro for installation.

IIRC, Audi send the internals of an S6 engine (cylinder heads, conrods, all the running gear etc) over to Cosworth, who mold the block, bore the cylinders, polish it and assemble. They then strap the turbos on and using a closed-loop induction, they test each engine on the bench (this is where the rumours of bench run-in engines come from).

As an aside, Cosworth have allegedly tested the block to 1000hp at the crank!

The completed engine, sans intercoolers, is then crated up and set back to Audi's factory, where it gets mated to the gearbox and is then dropped into an S6 body (which has had the transmission tunnel cut out and a wider one re-welded back in). The car is then driven at walking pace to quattro's factory building where the rest of the build is done largely by hand.
