lack of RS6 owners here

Post by johneroberts » Fri Aug 08, 2003 1:21 pm

Or is the fact that theyre all in dealers still awaiting owners?
Cant seem to put the facts together, i dont see many on the roads and i dont see many owners on the Chatrooms on other sites.
Is the RS6 a flop?
Please discuss
Cheers

On the Adi UK used car page they have 46 Avants and 8 Saloons for sale. My local dealers both have new ones available as well which are not be included in the above numbers.

Regularly see an RS6 in town. Will pop a note on the screen next time I pass its parking place, and see if we can cull another one

Agreed tho' - they are rare on the roads. Guess petrol heads dont like autos.

I think that a lot of it has to do with the new tax regime and the running costs....

IF you are a 40% tax payer and have a £60,000 RS6 then at 35% your tax liability is £21,000.. that is hell of a lot of money to be paying to the government.. and that's before you fill it with petrol, insure it and pay the installments...

I had a great time with the car but I resented paying HM Treasury £1000 every month for the priveledge .I loved the car, but I can have just as much fun in something smaller and more cost effective...

I am really, REALLY tempted by a TVR 350T

don't want to offend any owners but I think its because it is just another mega fast estate and I think audi have misjudged the market. The RS4 appeals because it was the first since the rs2 and is more a jack of all trades and is more likely to be owned by enthusiasts, whereas the RS6 is much bigger and heavier and as such will appeal to a different type of driver. don't get me wrong if they had launched the rs6 without the rs4 I would probably be driving one now, however I can't see there being that many customers in the market place for mega fast estate cars - fast estate cars yes but not mega fast and most of those have already bought rs4's. just my two penneth.

Umm, isn't it equivalent to £21k income, taxed at 40% = £8400?
Even so, it is a lot of money, and will probably limit the appeal. However, having bought privately with cash, I don't see the money going out like that! Hmm, depreciation and lost interest on £60k - I don't want to think about it!

I guess that most people in the market for the RS6 got in with early orders - maybe Audi UK's decision to double the shipments at the beginning of this year was a little hasty.

I have seen a rumour of some one planning a DSG conversion for the RS6 - hate to think of the cost, but it ought to improve performance/reduce consumption.

I have to say owning a RS6 after a RS4 is not upto what you would expect for the money. the only reason for changing was that me RS4 was stolen.

The insurance company coughed up £39,800 for the car after owning it for 12 months and having paid £41,995, not bad I thought. Whereas witht he RS6 if I got rid of it after 6 months i would loose I reckon looking at the prices on Audi's forecourts somewhere in the region of £10-12K.

But circumstances were at the time I couldn't find a RS4 with a TV, not many of these around you know. Slightly regretting buying the 6. May be looking to go back down to a RS4 if I can find the right one.

One of the problems is that imo Audi have devalued the RS brand lately. RS2 was very special in its day, RS4 again, both limited in numbers and instant classics - RS6 isnt and I doubt it will be because it is readily available. Now all the magazines openly talk of a new RS4 and even a RS3.

RS should be for specials, not production run cars - that is the job of the 'S' cars.

All my opinion of course and dont want to offend any 6 owners as it is a blinding car.

Hmm, there's not many about is there? I spotted one in Grimsby, but apart from that the only other one's I've seen have been my business partner's Avant and ones in the dealer showroom before they went out.

There's a lot up for sale 2nd hand. Makes me want to hang onto mine for a while longer as I guess residuals are taking a battering as a result. If I'm going to be torn a new one, I might as well get the enjoyment out!

I agree with Dave, overall cost is probably a big factor. The company car tax is crippling (even if it's your own company ) and despite being relatively cheap for a 'supercar', it has all the supercar running costs - petrol, insurance, tyres, expensive brake consumables etc.

I'm just burying my head in the sand until it's tax coughin' up time. Then I'll probably end up in an A2 TDI (not that there's anything wrong with that, but...).

Seriously, I'll possibly hang on to the RS 6 until it gets too hard to enjoy driving on the road (gatsos, SPECS etc) and then I'll think long and hard about someting like an A6 2.5 TDI and a Radical TrackSport.

Absolutly mate.. 40% of £21,000 is £8,400, but start adding on fuel, private health cover and interest free loans from the business and your tax bill starts to become frighting
