Does anyone know where I can get the sticky pad for the rear view mirror please? I bought a new mount from Audi but it does not have the sticky pad on it. I have tried some from Halfords but they were useless also tried some expensive 3M double side tape but still wont hold the mirror to the screen.

I thought the mirror clipped onto the stud bonded to the screen.

Even had a new windscreen. And the fixing comes already bonded to the screen.

And it is well and truly bonded. Had to use molegrips in the past to turn the mirror to remove it.
Suitable packing used so you don’t damage the plastic.
Like when I fitted the “mirror John”, upgraded rear view mirror.

I know what you guys mean as I've had a new screen myself. But looking at whats left on the mirror it is some sort of sticky pad. Maybe I'll have to accidentally crack the windscreen and claim on the insurance

Paul from memory. To remove the mirror you turn the mirror approx 45 degrees acw.
With the mirror removed the post remains on the windscreen.

From your photo is that the post that has come away from the screen ?
It should by bonded to the screen. Which is very secure. Double sided tape etc is not strong enough mate.

I have known of owners that have broken their windscreen trying to remove the mirror.
The bonded post is that secure.

I've ordered Permatex 81840 Extreme Rearview Mirror Professional Strength Adhesive to try. If this dosen't work a new screen will be sorted.

Yeah mate that’s worth a try first.
New windscreen can be a bigger problem.
All depends on the installation fitter.
Had mine done and I wasn’t happy. Had a gap each end. They fitted a A6 screen which isn’t the same size.
Shortly after got two pebbles kicked up by a truck in front of me.
Then fitted a genuine Audi screen which was very costly around £500 iirc.
Perfect fit. But install wasn’t great.
Capt Ric on here got the right screen for a fraction of the price. Only difference was mine had the 4 Audi rings etched on it. Captain Ric screen didn’t. Both had same part number.

I think I said to Ric at the time. The 4 Audi rings on my screen cost me £100 each.

Don't talk to me about windscreens. The thought of replacing it on the RS6 again makes me shudder.

I've been through the windscreen hassle, took Autoglass 3 atempts to get it right last time and they ended up putting a genuine screen in.
