Evening all.
I'm looking for part number 077121071BL I believe it is.
Its more commonly known as the black metal water pipe that runs round the rear of the engine, comes up the UK drivers side and stops you getting the UK drivers rocker cover off with ease.
I want to modify one while my engines out. I have a plan but I'd rather attack a spare rather than hack into my one and only.
Have any of you lot got one sat around you'd be interested in parting ways with?
Any condition considered at this moment in time too to be honest.
Appreciate it.

No, but see my post from years ago where I modified mine. Worked really well. Send ChrisA a message, he has my unmodified spare.

Thanks Mate.
I didnt realise there was a tread already on this pipe mod.
Was desperate to know how someone else had done it before i chopped into it
Great minds obviously think alike because I have actually already modified my existing pipe, and done it exactly like you. I bought a joiner with a rolled end and fitted it the same position. I didnt braze it in however but tig welded it on. Looks good. But typically just after painting it and intending to fit it tomorrow I've now come up with a different idea that I feel would work better so want another pipe to try another solution.
What worries me with this way of doing it is how to go from the new cut end, to the top of the rad neat and successfully. I have a rough idea in my mind how it will go and work but as you know, till the engine is in, and the rad pack is back on, i won't know if it really does work!
I don't suppose you have any pics or can describe how you went from you new pipe outlet up to the rad?
I've cut the clamps off the old top radiator hose and bought a 300mm long bit of rubber hose with a 45degree bend in it and was hoping it be able to make it work with that lot.
But it's all guesswork and a risk.
My new idea wouldnt mean guesswork or risking it.
Interesting to see and or hear of your solution.
Here is mine so far.
Picture too of it test fitted to the car with a random bit of rubber hose i had.

I made a stainless dog leg from 2 90 degree bends tig welded together with only a short connector on each end. There is a pic of it installed somewhere on here.

Found the thread on it! Finally. I have searched for ages and come up with nothing!
Thanks for the advice. Think I'll carry on in the direction I was already heading in then.
Reassuring to see it already in place working and some 5years ago!
I was dreading getting it all back together only then to find out why audi didn't do it this way in the first place!
Cheers again

Only thing I can immediately think of I'd do differently - ideally put a swage on the dogleg ends. I couldn't - so just made sure to rough up the ends properly with 40 grit so the hoses would clamp & hold well.

My thoughts exactly. My plan is to buy a joiner with beaded ends. Then I can cut it in half and use it on either end. If I can find one in stainless.

Hard to find. I found loads in ali. I found one in stainless, waited for a month for it to arrive from china and then it was - ali. If you could find a copper olive the right size (32mm?) could maybe braze that on. Anyway, I've done loads of non swaged pipes on stuff over the years and as long as you rough up the end properly, I've never had one let go.
I even tried cutting a stainless ring that slid over the pipe that I could tig on and then grind to a nice shape - hard to weld bits that small, they just puddle up and run away - but probably your tig welding is better than mine.

I bought a used one off ebay for £45 a few months ago, as mine is corroding away, i was going to clean it up and treat it, then give it a few coats of hammerite or similar, i know it wont stop it corroding from the inside out, but hopefully it should allow it to last a few more years, not sure the current one will last more than 12 months to be honest, I did manage to pick up all the necessary 'O' rings too, just want to get it boosting properly before i strip more bits off,
