Anyone know anything about the W12 A8s?

Post by srichards » Sun Mar 03, 2024 6:37 pm

My head has been turned by these as they have some great modern features but are still ridiculous and also a saloon. It has quattro 4WD but I don't know whether that is the proper 4WD like ours or the Haldex or similar that is 2WD until it slips rather than permanent 4WD.

How stupid are they to own? Supposedly the W12 is robust and doesn't really have bother. Chain driven but you never know and I'm a moth to troublesome automobiles...

They have the 8 speed ZF that is better than the 5.

Air suspension comfort is appealing. Plus matrix LEDs. Not sure it will fit in the garage so that's the first thing to check as it's 5.3M I think

Anyone had one of the W12s or the V6? V6s are cheaper and more plentiful to choose from.

A garage owner who does my mot,s has one.
I remember the bhp being much less than the rs6
When I enquired about it he said his was naturally aspirated.
And yes they are a big car.

IIRC I posted a photo of it on here. Saying you don’t see many of these about.

I love that engine. Bulletproof from what I hear. Get one while you still can.

W12 is definitely the one to have I think.

Definitely. Future classic, that. Consider a Phaeton, too. Nicely rare.

I think Jason Statham had a A8 W12 in the Transporter films.
And Liam Neeson had the S8 W12 in Taken.

The S8 is a V10.

The one I've seen on autotrader that turned my head was at Sytner. Metallic brown with a chocolate leather interior. It's way over budget. Don't normally like brown cars or even brown generally but somehow....

Looks like a good car if you can live with the colours. Not sure I could.

I quite like the colour as it's not a common one and it's not an all black interior. I daren't go and look at it as there's a good chance I'd have to sell a kidney and buy it...
