Headlight restoration

Post by steve2003rs6 » Fri Mar 10, 2023 12:15 pm

Had headlights restored about two years ago.
From what I remember after polishing the were not sealed.

Just had them redone as they had discolouration effecting them again.
This time they were spray sealed.

Hate discoloured lights. Spoils the look of the car.

Will see how long they last.

Why don't you cover them when not in use to protect from UV? Obvs you'll need to remember to remove the covers before driving at night. ;)

Didn’t know you could do that.
Cover with what Ben.
This would be ideal for me as I do very little night driving.

Dunno. Pretty sure I've seen cars with them before.

Something like this:

Spray with extreme UV blocker, or spray black.

Or this:

Says it fits the V8 versions, but I'm not convinced the headlamps are the same shape on the V8 A6s.

Will see how we go for now Ben.
But that looks like a great fix if they fit our cars
Every day a school day. Didn’t know they existed.

Shipping from China is enough to tell me they are most likely junk. I do know there is a guy on Audizine that rebuilds them and uses new lenses. He will use original Audi reflectors on his lower priced lamps and use an upgraded reflector on his upper priced. I've been tempted to get a set but mine are in great condition, car is alwasys garaged and I do wax the lenses every time I wax the car which helps.

I had my headlights upgraded and restored a few years ago now. I also opted for the xpel ppf to help block the UV rays our lights suffer from

Did you check the wiring inside the headlight?

Hi Greg. Lights were done in situ.
So no. Wiring was not checked.
