You can replace the PAS pump and A/C compressor with the radiator in the service position, ( tilted forward)
I understand it's one of the easier jobs on these cars (but beyond me), luckily my nephew managed it well, it just took time.

Tell-tale stains of IC leaks there. :(

Sure. That's the procedure as per usual, but in my own view I'm not sure if it's suitable for a disabled person. With the lock carrier off, then reaching (particularly the rear bolt) would then be doable.

Shop, How could I be sure? No faults on Vagcom. I presume loss of power would result, Can't say I've noticed, so would it be worth changing?

Did find this anyone got feedback?

You won't get any faults on the Vagcom unless it's a massive leak. You could log the specified / achieved boost to see if you're making the specified boost. Since your front end is off, though, by far the most sure way to test is to whip the IC out, block one end and put some compressed air in the other end. See if it'll hold 1 bar.

An IC leak means that the engine is slower to make specified boost. It'll probably get there in the end if the leak isn't too big. Also you'll be losing metered air so the ECU will be dialling back the mixture. However when WOT, it's an open system and the leak could be more pronounced as pressure from the turbos increases resulting in rich mixture.

You could use something like this:

Or knock something up yourself.

"Can you kindly tell me exactly where the Power Steering pump is located at the front of the engine" ?

Hope these photos help.
I'm not a mechanic but my nephew is and he's done this for me.
Recently replaced (again PAS pump) with TRW one (from Auto doc)
Flushed through the fluid several times until clear ( 5 litres)
Also bearing and pulley ( which were not availiable according to a couple of specialiasts I use !) Note the bearing was fairly cheap but first one from auto doc poor quality, got a second one elsewhere, but not sure it was any better than the oem with 90K miles!
Found bearings on A/C compressor ( just below PAS pump) noisy, and was noisy in cabin too so replaced that ( ignore the doesn't fit your car on screen shot - it does & looks identical).
Also replace the drier. This was a struggle to find, but got one from German ebay. Recharge by mobile a/c engineer - works brilliantly.

Hope this helps - I'll do aseperate post with more info once the car has been road tested,
Any chance of any part numbers for parts needed to replace etc, PAS, A/C Compressor, Belt, tensioners etc? :notworthy:

A/C Drier https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265083629662? 1
( From Germany he's got a few left and will ship to UK ,Good luck finding one of these elewhere, only other one I found was in US and he wouldn't ship )

A/C compressor https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401004966562Power steeering pump https://www.autodoc.co.uk/trw/2199904

PAS Fluid https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/382614235079 (we used 5 litres incl flush)

ECP Red antifree ( cheaper than ECP direct) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194525763783
Power steering pump TRW https://www.autodoc.co.uk/trw/2199904

Tensioner https://www.autodoc.co.uk/febi-bilstein/1885544

Bearing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175357896829 ( Note it was better than the one from Auto Doc which went in the bin, but debatable if its any better than the original with 80,000 miles)

Guide Pulley can't remeber which one ( about £20) https://www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search ... 32+0066+10

A/C is working beutifully - hopefully power steering will be finished this weekend.MOT booked for next week. Feedback to follow. ( My nephew mechanic has been working all week in classic merc garage and weekends as race mech, so patience is a virtue, but he seems very thorough and has found parts that were supposedly unavailible.) I'm in dipute with power steering services over oem pump rebuild - not recommended.

Hope this helps - Good luck
