Lets talk manly fluids...
I said "manly", not "man"... you people, that thought otherwise, leave the room immediately
Ok, now thats cleared up...
I am just about to buy brake fluid for the newly assembled front braking system, currently awaiting a bleeding tool, but whats best for these cars, any specific Audi types or just DOT 4 fine? Brands?
Also, car will be due an oil change due to time as it doesnt do the miles, so i see from the oil discussions here previoulsy that 5w40 is receommended against the normal 5w30, are there any brands to avoid and any preffered? I used to buy Castrol for my ST220 but belive its over priced <beep> now so rather just pay the going rate for something that does the job, found a selection here https://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-751-vw-505 ... %20engines.
Oh, and how much of each, is it 9litres for oil? What does the full brake system need, 2litres?

Re: Lets talk manly fluids...
My manly fluid these days is mostly drool.
Bloody brake fluid. I'm still pissed off that they stopped selling ATE super blue. Now I just get ATE SL6 Dot 4 and get enough to be sure I've flushed it all through. Never had an issue with it. I use it in all my cars and it holds up fine in the M3 with stock brakes all day on track. The total capacity is a bit less than 1 litre if I remember, but you will probably use closer to 2 to make sure you get it all and account for waste.
In terms of oil, I'd get the Castrol Edge stuff because it's one of the few that is actually fully synthetic instead of pretend fully synthetic (I believe). Sometimes ECP have good deals on it. Worth keeping an eye out and buying when the price drops.

Manual says 7.4l oil capacity including filter so 8 litres should be enough.

Nice, i'll have a look into that, i'll get the 2L as i have lost quite a bit of fluid and prefer to flush it to new stuff anyway as it would have been due changed
I read before that Castrol was same as lots of other brands, just named and price inflated, i personally never had any problems with it so i'll stick with it if you think its actually better made quality as its marketed, i'll see what deals i can dig up
Re: Lets talk manly fluids...
You need to find out if the oil is ester based (mineral) or PAO or Class IV (real synthetic) but it's easier said than done sometimes. Suspect the Comma stuff is probably ester based. I think it has to say in the material datasheet if it's ester based.
I suspect it probably doesn't really matter what you use as long as it's a decent brand of 505.01 and you are changing it at short intervals.

Just had a look at the MSDS for the Castrol and even that has some mineral oil in its base. Who knows. You have to be an organic chemist to understand that stuff.

Jeez, thats a headache in itself reading that. I think thats what i dug up before, its being marketed as fully synthetic when in fact it has percentages of mineral base etc, i assume its like sausages in that it has a certain min level of meat content it has to include to achieve the claim of meat on the packaging

Yes, all day long. I have the laser version I got on discount from screwfix, but either jobby make bleeding brakes so much more easy.Shoppinit wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 9:52 amI recommend one of these, too:

And re. Castrol. That's what I use. I wait until I can find a decent deal and usually buy a 20 litre can of it, it saves a few quid.
