Steve, i am sending mine to a company called Godspeed Brakes, have saw previous work and finish was really good, pricing is fair also, its £400 for a standard strip and rebuild with powdercoat colour finish, then extra works are chargeable, so its £80 per nipple thread repair work etc, if you email and speak to Ian, he will advise you better im sure
I’ve just got the last caliper off as the near side front had seized on the hose at the caliper. Thankfully I was able to cut the line as I’m replacing with braided hoses and get a socket on the nut which was enough to get it out.
Another relief is that all 4 bleed nipples on the front can be unwound. 👍 Are the any other nuts I need to loosen prior to sending them away as I don’t want to be stung for and seized threads when I have the time to work on loosening them? Will what looks like a balance bar need to come off for the refurb, would I be taking the pins and guides out?

I've a few things on just now, so I haven't done much with the pair I bought.

Had some time last night and decided to get a look, and I started to pull one of the calipers apart. All pistons are very smooth and free.

Unfortunately, the mixed material curse kicked in, and one of the nipples sheared off..typical my luck, so that's the project over the next few days and to get my blasting cabinet up and running.

RS Calipers are notorious for seized nipples, need to pick up an M10 x 1.0 Tap for chasing and a set of easy outs.. pads were pretty tuff to get out and we're cheap TWR jobs..ImageImageImageImage

Chris, once you have removed the calipers thats it really, i even had issues removing my pads as my pins were seized also and Ian told me to leave them in and he would deal with them, very helpful guys

He removed the spreader bar on my calipers as he said most people dont refit them as they are not needed and only used for the first few years of the 8 pot runs, as you see with RS3 etc they dont have them now, he did powder them still and returned them to let me decide if i wanted to reinstate them, ive just left them off

The nipples were always my issue, so just used that as excuse to get them done

Are you doing yours by yourself? I would advise buying Brembo kits for them, not too expensive, around £35 per caliper and its new pins, anti rattle etc, good for peace of mind with no seizing after getting the calipers re-done

SO what colours are you lads going for then???

Cheapest I've seen pins and retaining springs are 45 quid from addiction motorsports, my springs are fine but the pins are gubbed.

Had a major issue with two of the M5 Torx screws holding the shim plates in situ, total bastard of a job, the heads were badly corroded, so had to butcher them off with a combination of a small cold chisel and a couple of plain drivers.

Still struggling with this nipple, think I'll hand it in to the local engineering Shop, worst case scenario I'll get him to drill it out as close to the threads as possible then collapse the walls using a fine punch set, should get it out that way.

Still to order the seal kit, Fren-Tech kit is totally decent, I've used them before with no problems, by that time my blast cabinet should be up and running, get them cleaned up ready for powder coating, I'm just going for Black..

Where did you find the Brembo kit for £35 quid ?

If i remember right, i dealt with addiction and his stuff isnt genuine Brembo, think it was around £50 for both calipers, but i found OE Brembo kits for £35 each so just went with genuine

Let me have a look, im sure i scoured Ebay etc, one from one place and one from a VAG parts specialist, i'll see if i can dig out the names, but they are becoming thin on the ground

Yes, they are after market, which doesn't bother me, TBH. My M10x1.0 Tap arrived unnoticed, the Amazon guy must have slipped thru my letterbox and never rung my bell. Bit lucky here, these are German Made, and got a 2nd cut and Plug for 5 quid delivered.

Need an M5x0.8 plug for chasing the Shim bolt holes, I'll just grind down a 1st cut I have and use that.

I ordered these off Westfield Fasteners, and I thought they looked better than OE, plus if anyone tries to remove them in the future, there's more head to play with and not run onto the pish I did.. their M5 x 0.8 x 10mil if anyone's thinking of replacing..ImageImage

If I were you, I would replace the Nipples with Titanium if you're sending them off, supply a set of Ti nipples or ask them to do so. Loads online from either bike specialists or fastener suppliers , expect to pay around 20 to 25 quid for 4.

My bikes have all Ti nipples on them (all Brembo Calipers) mainly as I bleed the brakes a lot and the corrosion resistance is excellent, so less chance of seizing.

They have them in stock, 70 quid the pair.. outrageous lol..

I refreshed the monoblocs on my BMW HP4 a couple of years ago with Brembo OE seals and Pistons which cost me almost 300 quid, I don't mind paying the right money for things but most of this kit is outrageously overpriced for what it is, springs and rubber hoops.. their mounting gel is the best I've ever used mind you lol..ImageImage

I agree, but when i asked the Addiction lad if his kit was genuine, he got quite aggressive and reeled off how much more expensive they were for genuine, told him i found correct parts for £20 more than his and there wasnt much saving in the aftermarket stuff so went with the Brembo bits instead

Yea, spose their not a huge amount more, I'll decide what I'm doing when I get to that point, mind those Ti nipples mate, worth a few quid more and save a pile of grief later down the line.

Has anyone got a link to the correct Ti nipples please?

As for colour, I’m going for misano red. There’s a little additional cost but I think it will look good.
