Gear changes

Post by steve2003rs6 » Sat Jun 11, 2022 1:29 pm

Just been out for a run.
On the way home car wouldn’t change up from second gear.
Put it into paddle shift. All gears are selecting.
No warning lights on dash or on gear lever surround.

Anyone got any ideas. She has been driving beautifully until this happened.

It won’t change gear if there is input from the steering wheel.

Hi Ben. With steering wheel paddles. The gear changes are all ok. Smooth upshifts and downshifts.

In auto mode car won’t shift from second gear to third gear.

Hi mark. No mate no faults or warnings showing.
Parked up at the moment at a local garden centre. While my wife is shopping.
Then a 15 min trip back home.
Will see what happens when I set off.
Will update on here when I get home.

I think I have tempted fate. Last night I set up a saving account for the car with the bank. With a monthly standing order to cover a service and cambelt costs In 4 years time.

When was the F125 switch last changed? Last gearbox oil service?

If you use the +/- mode on the gear selector does it change normally with that?

Hi suz.
Gearbox was serviced April last year.
I did say to grizz that on my next visit we will change the F125 switch as a matter of course.
Never had any gearbox issues until today.
Will see what happens when I set off for home.
As I said. On paddles no problems at all.
So I guess that the gearbox is fine.
Only problem is when I am in auto mode.

Very pleased to advise that the problem seems to have rectified itself.
Just prior to the problem I had to do a emergency stop as a young boy stepped out in front on me.
Luckily I was only doing around 15 mph in built up traffic.
Don’t know if this caused or contributed to the loss of auto gear changes.
Thankfully all is now ok.
And I can also add that the brakes are extremely effective.
They stopped the car on a dime.

Are you sure you didn’t just knock the gear lever over to the right a bit when you did the stop?

No I didn’t knock the gear lever Matt
Yes I am that old mark !
She is called “Christine” for a reason.
Hopefully it was a one off. Just pleased everything is all ok again. But will change the f125 switch when I am at unit 20 on next visit. As far as I know she is still on the original switch.

Wasn't there some weirdness before after an episode of heavy braking?

Hi suz yes there was. After heavy braking I had a total loss of any brakes.
Eventually traced to a faulty brake booster valve.

On another occasion on long runs usually after a couple of hours. I would lose brakes.
That was found to be a seized rear brake caliper. Overheating the fluid.

Then during a brake fluid oil change. The bleed nipple thread in a front caliper was found to be knackered.

So new front and rear calipers
Did the discs and pads while we were at it.
New brake booster valve installed.
All done by unit 20.

I will do a few emergency stops today and see if I can repeat what happened yesterday.
JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT.

I guess that’s why me and Christine make a good couple.
We are both past our sell by date.
But compliment each other beautifully?
