Brake pads

Post by Foxmeister » Tue Jun 07, 2022 11:27 am

What are we using for front pads, OE or aftermarket? What have you got? Are they any good?

Reason i ask, mine are throwing off a large portion of dust, to the point of after cleaning the car, i only use it once and get dust splatter all over the spokes almost instantly, previous owner fitted discs and pads but not sure on the brand but im thinking cheaper ones of sorts, what are they best ones to keep the dust at bay? Or is it the drilled discs that cause it?

OE are good pads.

I was considering going for OE to replace with Shopp, i also like the Ferodo as i had them on a previous car and thought they were good but dont want to take the chance with more dust etc

How much is a set of OE pads roughly? Dealers still stock them?

Yeah, the DS2500 are OK but they're not road legal.

I replaced mine with oe pads In April of last year.
Bought front and rear. But have only used the fronts at the moment. Rears were ok.
Will see if I can dig the receipt out.

I run EBC in mine. More than happy with them. No fade under heavy braking. Not a huge amount of dust, but I think due to the weight of the car, you are never going to get away from the dust.

Mine are EBC red stuff after the OE went NLA. I know they’re not rated by some people; Why red stuff?

Because the brakes on my Ultima came off a 196mph car used on the track. Red stuff handled it well, whereas “normal” brands caught fire. That’s good enough for me.

I have OE on mine. They do produce a lot of dust. They squeal at slow speed. Tried all sorts of paste. Now going to try a pad that you stick on the back of each pad.
If this don't fix it I will be fitting the C6 RS6 discs and calapers.

Certainly if OE was available, I’d use them.

I dont actually get any squeal from my brakes, which is unusual

I know i cant eliminate the dust altogether, but current ones are producing a fair amount, i would need to remove these to see what they are, and probably might aswell fit new ones whilst in there as its not a 10min job

Echo the above. No brake squeal on mine either.
Good job as that would send me nuts.

Different colours for different uses. I think Red may be track use only and not road legal. Mine are Yellow which I believe are legal but for cars with a higher weight or that may need to deal with extra heat. Green are just the regular pads for everyday use. I think Red takes a long time to heat up to be efficient or actually work which is why they are not legal.

I think there may also be Blue ? But no idea what they are created for. Or if they even exist. Maybe my mind is playing with me ? :boots:
