OZ + Spacers = wheel bolt length

Post by anditsoundslikebells » Mon May 23, 2022 10:21 am

I have OZ Superturismo LM 9.5 x 19 (ET40 PCD 5 x 112)
My KWs finally blew up. I'm fitting B16 PSS9... more on that later (+pics)
I have Eibach 15mm spacers for the rear & H&R 7mm for the front. (15/7 each side)
Tomorrow I will have the alignment, ride, height, stance etc set up. (I will be lower than some like...)

I measured the OEM bolts and concluded I would need 43mm bolts to take into account the 15mm spacers.
The guys who are fitting the suspension have said 43mm are about 10mm to short for the 15mm spacers.

Does anyone have experience with bolt length? Any idea what I should need?
Would the thickness of the OZ 'plate' vs the OEM alloys 'plate' (the face that fits to the hub) account for my mistake?

Cheers

But do the OEM bolts work on the OZ? Don't the OZ have tapered seats? Rather than radiused?

15mm are quite chunky. Do the bolts go through the wheel to attach to the hub, or is it the type of spacer that bolts to the hub with bolts in counterbores then you bolt the wheel to the spacer?

Surely you are going to rub like hell ? 15mm ? 9.5" ? ET40 ?

You're right, 15mm was a no go.
In the end I will go for 8mm on the rear and not sure about the fronts yet.
The 8mm need 43mm bolts.
I've now read up about it and think I understand the issue. The H&R hub-centric spacers (1655572) have an inner wheel bevel of 7.0mmx45degrees. This is more than the Eibach Pro 15mm spacers (which sit nicely inside the OZ rims.
Here are the PDF from H&R and some pics comparing the two spacers inner wheel bevel.

Eibach, ST, nor others make a hub-centric 8mm spacers so I think the next step is to source new hub centric rings (hopefully OZ OEM) that suit the car, rims, and spacers.

Shop, you're correct about the bolts I will also go for H&R 43mm bolts + locking nut.

I have 034 Motorsport 'density line adjustable upper arm kit', so have been able to add some camber front and rear.

The day the suspension was replaced the aircon sensor stopped working. The car loves to keep the issues until I think I've finished.

The other thing I worked out through this is that the car has had the front-right arch resprayed, possibly after an accident.
The suspension is equal bothsides, weighting perfect, but the left side has less clearance.
I'll now take it to a bodyshop to see what can be done to make them equal. I'd prefer to make them both factory but will have to see whats possible. Maybe I pull the one that is closer.
It not being symetrical kind of gets to me.

Aside from the adjustability have you notyany other changes to the front end while driving?

At the time I ended up replacing a lot of the suspension:

Control Arm Kit Upper 034 Motorsport DENSITY LINE ADJUSTABLE UPPER CONTROL ARM KIT
Control Arm Kit Lower 034 Motorsport DENSITY LINE LOWER CONTROL ARM KIT, EARLY B5/C5
Control Arm Hardware Kit 034 Motorsport CONTROL ARM KIT HARDWARE KIT, ALUMINUM UPRIGHTS
Tie Rods 034 Motorsport TIE ROD, METAL, HEAVY DUTY
Anti-Roll Bar H&R ARB 33524-1
Sway-Bar Links Rear 034 Motorsport SPHERICAL REAR SWAY BAR END LINKS
Sway-Bar Links Front 034 Motorsport SWAY BAR END LINKS, MOTORSPORT
Strut mount SKF Top Strut Mounting

When I bought the car, afte the initial excitement, I started to think it didn't drive as I had hoped. +there were some creaking noises coming from the front suspension.
Now I have the above & the new coilovers it drives really well.... compared to how it was with 150k

Wow, the whole shebang. I'm wondering about the approach to dialling in better front end feel/response in iterations. What would you recommend would be the first component to look replacing? I've already got the h&r arb's and coil overs.

I suffered from 'while I'm there' big time. I did reseearch it all a lot before before I bouight it. I'm very happy with it all and it feels much better than when I got the car. I couldn't tell you where is the best place to start though.
