Headlight rebuild, obscure part wanted.

Post by AideQuattro » Fri May 06, 2022 9:36 am

I’ve just started to renovate a pair of headlights.
The lenses were already done but the reflector for the cluster was loose so I decided to dismantle the unit to investigate.

Anyway the upshot was that it had come adrift of the 3 adjustment sockets.
Unfortunately one of the sockets is damaged…

…good one left, bad one right…

Now I could reassemble using the damaged part, once pressed home it feels pretty much secure, but if there’s replacements available it’s too good an opportunity to pass up putting it right; right?
I have attempted the internet & eBay search but come up with nothing.
Worth trying the local dealer?
Anyone able to help?

Did you put the part number into eBay? Normally works for me when I’m looking for a silly little part

Can’t find a part number.
This diagram is the closest I’ve got…

Unfortunately it doesn’t include all the bits inside the lens.

Which OEM made the headlight originally? They might have a part number for that bit.

If that fails I'd think somewhere with a 3d printer and scanner could run a one off to try.

I had to 3d print some similar parts to fix the Saab headlights. Those look tricky to print, though. If you've got the missing bit, some good epoxy glue should to the trick.

The missing bit is nowhere to seen, I checked the other light; it’s the same, one damaged one good, no missing bit.
Seems strange part to fail.
The OEM is Hella, that didn’t provide any luck on the search either.
As I said; once it’s pushed home it feels secure enough to reassemble, so I’ll do that.
I plan to swap out these for my existing lights so they can have the same treatment.

Any one recommend a suitable sealant for sticking the lenses back in?

Not sure if this will help, but when the plastic adjuster gears failed on mine (for adjusting the level), I found Jaguar used the same parts (might have been for the X-type).
Wonder if any other parts were shared?
