KW suspension any good?

Post by Promech » Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:11 pm

The H&R coil over setup on my car has had its time and I’m about to sell the car so don’t want the new owner to have any issues.
I ordered a set of bilsteins from awesome gti but they have said there is no stock until mid April! They have offered KW instead but I’m not sure what the quality is like?

KW v3? Or v1?

I imagine it’s the v1 as it’s instead of the cheaper bilsteins

I have V1. I had Bilsteins before. I prefer the KW. They're slightly less awful at low speeds on crap roads.

The H&R set up I inherited was absolutely dreadful.
Very happy with the new bilstein replacements.
However I did adjust them to a softer setting than most people recommend.
Never had KW so I cannot comment.

I have V3 but nothing to compare them against. I find them a little hard and crashy at times, but everyone has a different opinion.

I also have no idea how they were set up, how hard they were set to, rebound etc.... Something I always kept meaning to do but never got around to it.

Mine came with H&Rs.
Eventually they wore out and became crashy and it skipped over bumps.
I replaced them with KW V1s, but I wouldn't recommend if you're wanting comfort, as they are very hard.

The 2nd RS6 spares car I have has KW version 2 on it. From what I can find these are for the S6 and have softer springs. should have softer dampening as well. Only rebound dampening on Version 2. I am going to give them a go and see what they are like. I do find the KW version 3 to hard for a lot of the Australian roads.

The spares car has Version 3 as well. They must be an earlier revision then the ones on my car. Mine have a purple adjustment wheel at the bottom. The ones from the spares car have a little slide you push around to see the adjuster. Pictures are of the spares car KW's.

I've got v2 on my S5 V8 with the button to control stiffness, but they are still harsh'ish.... maybe I'm just old (ok, I am).

FYI.. the white on the second shot was because they were being cleaned ImageImageImage
