First trip to Unit 20 tomorrow

Post by MattyVRS6 » Thu Jan 20, 2022 7:05 pm

Booked in for a gearbox service tomorrow at Unit 20. The previous owner mentioned he had changed the oil 4 times in 20000 miles so I thought I would carry this on seen as it will be coming up to 5000 miles since the last.

It's around 1h 30m to get there from Stoke - there are a couple of companies near me that could potentially do it but I chose Unit 20 based on reviews on here.

I've asked them to look at a coolant leak I have and also to try code my key's.

Hoping I will come back happy.

Yeah, it’s a no brainer if you’re that “close”.
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

I'm also about 3 hours away and it's looking likely they will be doing my Gearbox. Had covid for the last few weeks, well few days anyway, the rest is just isolating. Saved a few hundred in fuel though I guess haha.

Since my box is slipping, I'm unsure if I should drive it there slowly or jus6t get someone to trailer it up there for me...

Take it you need a new gearbox then? My new one is on 50000 miles so I'm trying to prolong the inevitable for as long as possible!

I happily drive 5 hours to go there if it's something I can't do myself.

Pretty much. TC is slipping quite badly and then will suddenly clunk as it locks. I thought about just getting the TC replaced, but it may be the best idea just to bite the bullet and get a rebuild. I guess once it's in and they have it apart they will advise me the best route to take. :boohoo:

Usually it's 1h20m mins from my house to them but when I checked Google Maps yesterday it said 1h30m.

Had a good day in Neston. Dropped it off and drove to Cheshire Oaks, had some breakfast then nipped to the Aquarium and spent an hour in there.

The gearbox was serviced, the coolant leak narrowed down to 2 hoses that are now obsolete and the central locking issue still ongoing. They couldn't get any communication to the CCM so it looks like I'll have to pull the carpet up and see what's going on.

They mentioned there was no swarf and the oil was in good condition so the box is fine which is always hood to hear!

There were 3 C5's there aswell as mine.

Glad I took it to them, feel happier now it's been done. They reckon it will need redoing in 20k miles which is good as I was going to do it every 5k.
