Cabling to armrest
Cabling to armrest
Hi all,
Anyone ran a cable from the the radio (or that area) to the centre armrest? If so how'd you do it? I'm hoping I can avoid pulling too much stuff out.

Re: Cabling to armrest
Mine came with a pioneer unit that already had the iPhone & Android cable through the trim above the transmission tunnel.
They had taken off some trim and used the hinge to get them into the armrest... looked pretty rubbish.
I did a bodge job of cutting a hole in the base of my armrest and fitting the rubber trim from a trashed one that had this option from the bay.
Some pictures are here:

Yeah, it's quite easy. The gear selector trims comes off easily and you can feed a fairly thick wire through from the back of the headunit, behind the climatronic and fish it out of the gears selector. Then you can feed it through the handbrake surround trim (this also comes off easily) and then do what anditsoundslikebells did.

Gear lever surround, hand brake trim. Perfect, got it thanks gents.
Re: Cabling to armrest
Just remember to put something behind the gear knob button when you pull it off. Otherwise it retracts inside the knob and it's a pain to get out again. Ask me how I know.

Cheers Shop, I did some work on my father's Touareg to replace the lever surround buttons, same tricky button on those too.
Re: Cabling to armrest
Finished the new head unit install. The worst part of it was getting screwed by USPS, just as all the adaptor harness and trim stuff arrived at the depot on the US West coast USPS decided to halt airfreight to NZ. EVERYTHING had to go all the way back to Enfig to be resent, but this time to a forwarding warehouse using a local to me post service. Anyhoo I'm very pleased with how it all turned out.
It all started with a deal I got on Sony XAV-AX3000, up until then I was using a Crux Bluetooth adaptor which worked fine, not great , but all I wanted was halfway decent method to play Spotify in the car.
I could not have done this/I would not have done this if it wasn't for the short depth, half DIN format of the Sony. The adaptor cabling etc was considerable...but it easily fit under and behind the unit.
I found and chose Enfig for the rest of the parts as I liked what I saw in their C5 A6 install video. Sooo easy to setup and plug together with the only bodge needed being a connection to the parking brake wire off a nearby 12v wire.
USB cable routed behind the climate control, under the gear selector surround trim,.under the centre console and up through the hinge mechanism of the armrest.
Very happy with the sound and functionality that I have with Android auto.
The only nit pick is what's been mentioned here before regarding the difference between resistive and capacitive screens, this being the former, so at certain angles in sunlight it washes the screen out a bit.

Really Nice work lander that does look very neat.
Toyed with the idea of upgrading mine a while back. But I couldn’t justify it as I hardly ever have the radio on.

Cheers Steve, I'm too use to android auto for navigation, Spotify audiobooks and google assistant. I love the sound of the 6 too but to hear it I'd have to face loosing my license quite quickly. I'm toying with the idea of removing the resonators, the car is just too quiet in stock form. I'm finding conflicting info on the results regarding drone, so if I do the resonators will be modified to be able to slip back on if I don't like it.
Re: Cabling to armrest
Do you have the stock exhaust?

Re: Cabling to armrest
I need to get round to this wiring solution. Looks tidy.
I have the milltek non resonating exhaust and I love it, especially when running it manually on the paddles

Re: Cabling to armrest
I have the non res Milltek and it does drone slightly on the motorway at certain rpms. Easily got over by adjusting speed or droppping a gear

Re: Cabling to armrest
Yep, bone stock. It's not far off being where I want, Ive been there done that with previous V8s and near wide open exhausts. These cars deserve a bit more of a burble, at least to get it louder than my father's stock Cupra Ateca.
Re: Cabling to armrest
I did want to take it further when (hopefully) someone develops a retrofit wireless thngamabob that I could stick under the armrest liner, but I couldn't for the life of me figure how to seperate the liner from the body. Also it had phone prep with the pop up cradle still there. I had to use an oscillating tool to get it out, screw threads adhesive had failed so the screws just spun. There's probably a bunch of mess in that area where the cradle was.
If something does get developed for wireless android auto retrofit I'll go source another armrest.

Here's the website for all the adaptor parts:
https://enfigcarstereo.com/radio-instal ... =2002-2004
Note that if you go ahead and get the trim/surround it needs trimming to the upper plastic clips to sit properly, I think it's an RS6 thing. The 2 upper clips need sanding down to shorten them by ~4mm
