New RS6 owner!

Post by MattyVRS6 » Tue Oct 26, 2021 7:49 pm

Hi all, finally bought one and picked it up earlier.

It drives great, took it for a spirited drive and the power is just immense! It just keeps on going, unbelievable.

One think I'm disappointed in though is the sound system. It has Bose with an aftermarket head unit by Pioneer and there is hardly any bass. Will have to look into upgrading that.

Sorry about the rubbish picture but it was dark when I left the garage - spent 50 minutes on the phone to Co-Op banking trying to get my bank transfer released.

Will get more pictures tomorrow, the alloys are growing on me:

Other good news is my VCDS arrived today from Gendan so I'll give it a scan tomorrow. Hopefully I won't find too many surprises...

As long as it’s wired up right, through the bose amp, then you just need to crank up the bass in the head unit. Mine sounded weak until I adjusted the bass up

Cheers I'll have a play tomorrow.

One thing I wanted to ask everyone is how best to drive to preserve the gearbox?

It was replaced 40k ago, wondering if I'm best using paddles or not using kickdown too often?

Nice wheels! Use the paddles and go and get the gearbox serviced now.

Nice one matty. Hope all is well. The 6 looks good and from what you say drives really nicely.
Has it been mapped ?
Get used to stopping at petrol stations to fill up with fuel.
These really are astounding cars. As you will soon find out.
Just enjoy the ride.
As above get the gearbox serviced oil and filter changed ASAP.

I remember when I took mine for a test drive. I was sold straight away!
Then my TC went*
As everyone says above, a good service is top of the list.

Thanks for all the comments!

Re the exhaust I thought it sounded quite growly and louder than it should, not had a look at the backboxes but will do tomorrow. It does sound well.

I may be one of those lucky ones with a fault free car - we'll see I guess but regardless it's lived up to all my expectations even though I've hardly driven it. It just looks perfect.

Did a scan on VCDS earlier, had a load of faults relating to the battery dying at the garage which they replaced with a brand new one on collection.

Rescanned and it came up with 2 faults, one to do with the radio (it has an aftermarket Pioneer) and one to do with the air con:

Well happy with that!

It's only the air quality sensor, not the aircon. Lives under the bonnet somewhere in the incoming ventilation airflow (others will know where on an RS6).
IIRC there are two basic sorts in Audis of that era, only one is reliable....
And you can open them up and clean them VERY carefully without contaminating the sensor surfaces.
Had the same fault on my 2002 S8 just over a year ago and cleaned it away with a very delicate artists brush.
Oddly the D2 S8 part number is 4B0907659B whereas I think the C5 is 4B0907659A. No idea if they're compatible.

They are junk. You can safely ignore that error code. Mine has had the same code for the last 10 years.

It's nice when they work though, I just leave my S8 on auto recirculation and it just kicks in when stuck behind a dirty diesel or similar. 8)

Drive it for a bit then re scan.
HVAC error. Mine was a sealed unit. Just bought a new one from Audi. Relatively inexpensive. Been on a while now and still ok.
It’s connected to the front of the cabin air filter.
Rear of engine bay to the nearside.
Be careful when removing. The lugs on the housing are very brittle.
Push the sensor downwards to remove. Lug and groove fitment. And it can only be removed one way.
Insert the new sensor from the bottom and pull it upwards.

Other way round and it will break. I know from recent experience. I had to install a new filter housing which is a bitch. There is a hidden nut at the rear of the housing.

Ps it looks like you have bought a very good example.
Nice one mate.

Thanks again.

I saw HVAC and thought it was air con. Actually I haven't tried the air con, hopefully it works.

P.s I had a play with the sound settings on the Pioneer as suggested and it sounds a lot better now.

Quite sad but I have cctv and open it up on my app every now and again to admire the car...

Ha ha. Bought mine in 2012. I still look at mine in admiration every day.
When I am walking away after parking up. I always look back for a glance with a smile on my face.
My wife gets annoyed with people honking us and then giving us the thumbs up. I actually love it.
For me these cars are just perfect in every way.
Even though they can wind you up at times.
