no start after engine pull

Post by airtite » Thu Oct 21, 2021 11:52 am

Hi Guys

OK so motor back in and everything connected, front bumper and lights still off so I can test fire and make sure no leaks... new oil, oil filter, battery charged, motors turns at the crank so its not locked up.... key turns, lights on dash normal but the starter doesnt even swing.... VCDS showing no faults on engine or gearbox module?

Any ideas where to look?

I’d start with the starter!! Got to have a lose wire if it’s not getting any power-fuse? That’s the worse part of a engine pull for me getting the starter wiring off and on!!

i didnt touch any of the wiring at the starter, I disconnected from the mega fuses in the firewall under the expansion tank and pulled the harness through the firewall still connected to the motor.

Check your engine earth to chassis. Multimeter between the block and chassis on volts. If you see 10-14volts DC when you 'crank' the engine it's your engine to chassis earth. That was my cockup when I had the engine out. I now have a massive ground cable from sub frame mounting to where the aircon or pas pump bolts to the block.

car starts, I am an idiot... I had swapped the earth and positive at the alternator... new 200amp fuse fixed wiring and car starts.
