Strong smell of fuel
Just started getting a strong smell of fuel on initial startup. Only happens on first cold start after being parked up overnight.
Then it’s ok for rest of day.
It’s As if too much fuel fuel is being pumped in when the car is cold.

Re: Strong smell of fuel
The mixture is very rich on cold start. Might be normal what you’re experiencing.

Re: Strong smell of fuel
Thanks Ben. Haven’t noticed it before now for a long time.
Thankfully it’s only the first start in the morning. Then it’s ok for the rest of the day.
But it is a really strong smell.
Far too strong to live with.

Re: Strong smell of fuel
Different fuel brand to what you usually fill with? I'm no fuel expert but believe the different brands have varying concoctions/concentrations of additives, particularly octane enhancers.
These *might* affect the intensity of the smell.
Recent weeks events have resulted in me deviating from Momentum simply to get some fuel and I'm convinced the VPower/Ultimate combination was less smelly on cold start up... Could be all in my mind though...

Very good point. I always use vpower. This is the first time I couldn’t get any due to the shortage.
So filled up with Tesco 99 octane as I was getting low.
Hopefully vpower available when I next fill up.

Re: Strong smell of fuel
Is the smell from the exhaust or coming inside the car from the engine bay?

Re: Strong smell of fuel
Suz. Its definitely coming from the engine bay and into the interior.
However started up this morning and no smell of petrol.
Christine fixed herself again. Hopefully ?

They are a mystery it has to be said!
Re: Strong smell of fuel
Oh, if it’s coming from the engine bay then you’ve got a leak. Could be fuel line, pressure regulator (my money is on this) or leaky exhaust manifold.

Still no strong petrol smell on startup. Let’s hope it was a 1 off.

Ditto. Still no smell.
Just wondering can you overfill with fuel ?
Filled it to the top then kept going to round it up to the nearest pound.

Re: Strong smell of fuel
Is there an overflow on it ? That would allow excess fuel to trickle out on overfill ?

Re: Strong smell of fuel
Hi mark. Don’t know is the answer.
Just going to monitor it for now.
Only happened when I had a very full tank of fuel and on initial cold start.
Since then Nothing.
