RS6 for profit?

Over the weekend, a friend of mine with far more liquid cash than I, but who knows I'm into all things Audi asked me the following:
If he was able to walk into a dealer and buy a well spec'd RS6 Avant cancelled order at list price tomorrow, would he be able to sell it, undriven, for a profit and how long might it take him.
My response was (apart from "I hate you" and "you could let me look after it until it was sold..."!) that whilst I thought this might have been a realistic proposition when the car was first released, it might be a little harder to do now - a fair few cars available low mileage used and the upping of production to reduce waits to 3 months (correct?).
Does anyone have a another view on this?
Cheers, Clive

It is always a risk with big beasts like the RS6..... but i think he should get around £2000 more than list if he finds a buyer...... or better still get him to put ad`s in now even before hes bought it then buy and sell quick....... that way hes not stuck with it too long.....
The longer he`s got the car the less the profit margin etc etc

yeah but there is no shortage of the car - I reckon he has missed the boat on that - maybe he should try with the new Z4?

Agree with Dunc, deffo missed the boat with the RS6, they seem to be growing in numbers on the forecourt. Not sure if they are hard to sell, but they sure will be hard to make a profit on.
BTW, if you are risking £60k you would expect a better return than £2k IMHO

Dunc,
He's got access to the RS6 on Monday.... Z4 could be a backup plan, but he really wants to know if the RS6 falling in his lap is an opportunity or not

is an opportunity or not
Well maybe Andy is right afterall he is wiser and OLDer then me £2000 isnt much really.....
Looks like its only a opportunity for someone who is desperately after one right now whos willing to pay a higher than list prise..... email manchester united! Like i said maybe worth it if he had a buyer lined up before he buys it!
Get £500 from the buyer then buy of dealer then sell to the guy minus £500 sorted!

What's the score with the dealers who appear to be selling cars (0-500 miles on the clock) over list? Lots of options or just trying to make a killing then?

Yup
Most dealers are like robbers but in undercover form ([censored] `n` tie) they`d do anything to take your hard earned cash.....

I would say no to him for sure..
There are better ways of making money on £60,000.. £2000 (if he gets it) isn't much and he may not be able to sell..

I agree.
If he's making that much money on his own - or has tons of cash to maximize-, then my guess is : he has better things to do with his life than trying to beat the over-crowded and unhealthy Car Market for 2K over 60K.
Assuming he's succesful : by the time he'll be done with the ads, dealing with would-be buyers, transactions/paperworks of buying and selling, he'll probably have wasted 2K of his own NPV...
Or whatever opportunity cost he can apply to his value of time ...

Thanks for the advice guys - I'll pass it on.
So Dave, Eric, what can I tell him to do with his £60-100K to make a quick(ish) buck instead?
Cheers, Clive

Personally I would invest in property.. it's still holidng it's valuve and whilst you may not make a 'quick' return you will make a good return.
To make money in cars you need to get hold of one of the first examples of a car that has street cred and a long waiting list.
WAiting lists for the RS6 are now down to 3 months.. compare that to the BMW Z4 3.0l which you are lookign at 12 months for... now if you could get hold of one of those you would make some money.. but only until the next best thing comes out!
