Parts For Manual Conversion ?

Post by Mark-RS » Sat Sep 11, 2021 1:48 pm

Does anyone have a link to a list of parts that's needed for a manual conversion please ?

I'm weighing up the cost of a conversion against a recon of my Auto.

I have a friend who has done countless conversions and engine swaps, but only with Jap cars. He seems to think there will be zero issues with carrying out the work, it may just take time as the engineering is very different.

Any pointers so I can tally up a list of needed parts would be much appreciated. Whilst I do like the idea of a lazy auto, I do think if I wanted more power down the line and to future proof the risk of another failing box, that Manual may be the better option. Will also make it a bit more of a drivers car, which I must admit, I do miss. Paddles are all well and good, but just too slow to change and when turning the wheel are too much of a mystery as to weather it's the up paddle or the down paddle, as such I rarely, if ever use them.

I'm considering taking the car off the road over the winter to get this done and would like to get the parts in place over the next few months if possible.

Thanks as always for any pointers :-)

Sounds like it’s a different car you need. How about an e92 m3?
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

I hear what you are saying, but it's just not practical enough. The RS ticks pretty much every box ! Massive boot, Quattro, Roof rack, Comfy etc.....

I just think a manual would be more fun.

Thanks for those links. I'll have a look through them.

The other reason I'm toying with a manual is I want to avoid paying 2 or 3 or 4 grand for a new box only for the same thing to happen again down the line.

If you Shop right a 4 grand box shouldn’t break if you buy the right parts and it’s not tuned to the moon-manuals still have problems as it likes to smash gears.

I’d go for a donor car and work out what clutch/flywheel + adaptor/ spacer combo you’d wanna roll with each has there own pros/cons :thumbs:
Pm me if need be. Might be able to help out…
