Oil Light On....
Oil Light On....
Did about 1k miles around wales last week and on the drive home my Oil light came on. Min oil..... The yellow one with the Oil can.
Checked the Oil and it was mid way between the 2 raised edges, so well within limits.
Today I filled it right to the top edge, and yet still the light remains.
Does it need a reset with VCDS ? Does the light ever refer to anything else ? Such as low pressure ? Is the sensor prone to failure ?
Car still runs and drives without any issues, zero smoke and is clearly not using much/if any oil.
Thoughts please gents ? I'm going to run VCDS on it when I grab a spare 5 mins anyway.

Re: Oil Light On....
There are 2 yellow warning lights for oil. One is for level the other is for the level measurement sensor. Can you post a pic of the warning light?

This is the light in question......
Re: Oil Light On....
Yup. It thinks the level is too low. Sensor must be duff. But not in a way that the diagnostics can recognise.

Re: Oil Light On....
As long as it has nothing to do with pressure, that's all that was really worrying me.
I'm guessing it's not an easy sensor to get to, knowing these things.

I’ve got a feeling it’s in the bottom of the sump pan, but I could be thinking of a different car. Need to look it up. I don’t think it’s difficult to replace. Except you’ll need to drop the sump and redo the gasket which I hate.

Re: Oil Light On....
Yeah, in the sump pan.
I actually think you can might be able to do it without removing the sump too.
But if you do, the sump seal is just a 1mm seam of silicone.

Yeah. Just remember to drain the oil out of the sump first.
Seem to remember seal 1a is quite tight and needs a bit of a wiggle/tap to get the unit back in

And.... for the last 2 days she's decided to fix herself ! No oil light anymore ! Let's hope this is a trend she repeats over the next several years

Another Christine. Better keep her away from Steve’s.

Ha ha. Weird how some faults fix themselves. But it’s a great feeling.
Hoping my oil leak does the same but I am not holding my breath.
Just waiting on unit 20 to get back to me. So we can put a plan of action in place.
