Wrapping the RS

Post by ChrisA » Sun Aug 22, 2021 1:52 pm

Hi guys

I’m toying with wrapping, or at least partially wrapping, my red C5 RS as a bit of a promotion for my detailing business.

Having worked with vinyl for over 25 years and with contacts within the trade I thought this might be an interesting path to try to move my detailing business into (Auto Meticulous, to be found in the Sponsor forum).

So I thought I’d put it to you guys and ask what colours or styles you might like to see? I’m of a mind to try a gloss black bonnet, roof and boot spoiler.

Another style that stuck me was a matt red finish all over.

I like Miro and a wrap inspired by one of those paintings would turn heads, I reckon.

I don’t need to wrap that, just give my boys a selection of paints and brushes. 🤪
Although I kinda like the Challenger.

I really like the Matte finishes. Grey in particular. Extends the lines of most cars I've seen it on, especially those with wide hips and arches.

I hate matte cars. I don't get it. To me it looks like the car was parked under a tree and never washed. Makes me want to T-cut them.

Never seen a wrap yet that was better than proper paint. Lots don't finish them properly as all the door shuts are original colour still. This generally doubles the cost of doing them.

Personally I think the best promotion for a detailing business is a car so shiny you can see your face in it. Discrete window Sticker is all you need.

If you change the colour you also have to inform the DVLA so that's another load of hassle you don't need. Plus a wrap is classed as a modification by a lot of insurance companies so you have to declare it to them as well. More bother than it's worth.

Totally agree with you suz.
However I Watched yanni this morning. Some of the cars he has done have looked stunning.
And they also offer a lot of protection.
A guy had his Lamborghini wrapped.
Some jealous bastard threw paint all over it.
Removed the wrap with paint on it and just recovered it.

Mind you. I wouldn’t park a Lamborghini in a London street overnight every night.
Ps. Nice to hear from you Chris.
Hope your business is doing well and life is good.
Are you a dad again yet ?

Thanks for the input guys.👍

I also prefer a well detailed paint job over a wrap, it also doesn’t help that the C5 doesn’t have an aggressive shape that lends itself to some of the fruitier colours. However I still want to do something as I do get the odd customer asking about wrapping.

Steve, the business’ are going as well as I anticipated thanks. I’m getting good repeat work for the detailing, what is proving to be tricky is finding new customers.
As for baby, we’ve stepped into the danger zone now. After our last scan we were rushed to Southampton. Janna was prepped for baby bump to have a blood transfusion and emergency caesarean if required but thankfully, while in theatre, they did another scan and pulled the plug as things had returned to normal. She’s back there today for another scan and I think will be up and down at least 2-3 times a week now. 😬

Please dont do that, its been done to death and rarely looks good

Personally i agree with not wrapping it, but if its something you want to do, why not keep it kinda OEM+ at least, look into some of the newer Audi colours that arent available for the C5 to be different but not too wild, or even a few Porsche colours :bigblink:

Imola Sid had a nice Porsche blue. Can’t remember which one.

How about getting something that is total chod and wrapping that and also getting the interior as good as new as well? That would be more of an achievement.

Just wrapping, or graphics too? I'd like the sides of my boat wrapped this coming winter, or some graphics done.
Happy to pay, not asking for a freebie - and you'd be welcome to use the photos for promotion as you wish.
