oem versus Bosch MAFs

Post by Classik » Thu Jul 15, 2021 7:21 am

Maybe it's a known fact amongst RSers, but I just found out that the car behaves quite differently when equipped with the Audi oem MAFs (06A906461M) compared to the Bosch ones (0 280 218 065 or 0 986 280 218 which is the exchange version).

My understanding (probably false) was that oem MAFs are made by Bosch so there shouldn't be any difference, right?

I haven't made a proper measurement, but I've noticed that at idle the oems read at least 30% more air flow than the Bosch. And in terms of behaviour the difference is not small : with the oems the car reacts instantly when pressing the pedal and is kind of asking for more, whereas with the Bosch ones it all feels more 'sluggish' in comparison.

Could it be due to different ages, where my old oem MAFs are sort of compensating somehow ?
Or is that a nasty trick from Audi to make us pay the RS tax?

I put Bosch ones in mine and they read the same. You sure you haven’t introduced an air leak?

Where did you buy them? Plenty of fakes around.

Hi Shoppinit,

Bought the Bosch on Auto-doc, so this should be alright. Air leak: good call, although this would be a big one and symmetrically distributed between the 2 banks which is strange, or? Anyway, I'll try without the air box by just swapping the naked MAFs. More later..
