Cost of filling up ?

Post by Mark-RS » Fri Jul 09, 2021 7:22 pm

For the first time ever the pump shut off at £99 and I was unable to get a full tank of fuel !

When did the price of fuel rocket so much ? And for what reason ? I usually get between £80-85 from empty, so this is quite a jump ! Think I got about 71 Litres in total.

Northants area. What about you guys ?

Same here Mark. £100 limit to pay at the pump and it’s not enough for shell V Power on the east coast.

There's a dispute in OPEC+ involving Saudi, UAE, Russia and some others about production quotas basically.

Under £100 to fill up, you should own an S8! I've forgotten when I could last do that, especially with 99RON!

I recall many many years ago (at least 10, more like 15?) filling up at an automated pump in Scourie (look it up) at over £1.50 a litre going into a 90-litre (plus reserve) tank that was nearly empty... and that was only "cooking" 95RON.
Edit: The pump has its own web site: http://www.scouriefillingstation.uk/

It's almost certainly on what people now call the North Coast 500.

Though back in those days, with almost no other traffic on those single-track roads, and everyone understanding how to use passing places to allow overtaking or pass oncoming traffic safely without stopping, you could make stupendous progress.....

I suspect that nowadays you really do have to behave yourself.

E85 is between 0.55-0.80€ per litre here depending on where you live in the country, which makes around 50€ to fill up. Requires a specific map though..

We aren't in your stratosphere for fuel prices but inside the last 12 months fuel where I get it has gone up 25%. About 75 pound a tank from bone dry. I think it would take a large degree of mental adjustment to pay over 100 pounds a fill though.

Was just a bit of a shock to jump £20 odd per tank in the space of a few months !

Considering I use mine every single day, it may be an idea to get my old Polo back on the road. It's been sat on the drive unused since the day I bought this thing. It's been sat since I don't want to drive anything other than the RS, and that hasn't changed.

But maybe it's time to start being sensible and use some of the other cars I have. Keep the miles off the 6 also I guess, not that I care much about that. After all, I did buy it with the intent to use it.

Me too mark. Mine is my daily driver. Don’t want to drive anything else.
Don’t own another car
So I just have to suck up the fuel bills and live on Asda smart price beans on toast lol.
I am afraid “sensibility” goes out the window when you own one of these cars as far as fuel costs are concerned.
But wow so much fun to drive.
Ps forget the polo.

When I bought mine about 9 years ago, I had to stop off on the way home to fill it up....... €115!!! Boy did I get a shock. I remember thinking have I bitten off more than I can chew.
But 9 years on I still love it, just can’t afford to tax it now I’m in Ireland.

May have been showing over quarter, but probably only 5 litres left in there, petrol fairy would have sorted the gauge the next time you started it Steve.

I filled up with Esso supreme the other week and it was £1.48 a litre, how much is V-bastard now?
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

When I took mine to MRC to get it mapped, they mentioned to run a few tanks of Tesco Momentum through it and run it on that. That's what they apparently what they recommend for all the cars they map.

Honestly no idea why, since both Momentum and V-Power have a 99 Octane rating ? Which is the bang ? Correct ? I believe V-Power has more cleaning properties in it though ? I also think Momentum is close to 10p/litre cheaper.
