Hi mate
I had a rattle through my steering column over uneven roads(not hard to find here) and it drive me mental the last year !!! When I checked my pedal box I thought it seems ok but let me try the cable tie trick round the pedal shaft. No more noise. I put new lower arms on, arb link poly bushed etc etc and the noise would not go cost me a small fortune when really all I need was about 50p worth of cable ties.

Hi Riggs. Can you expand on that. Do you have any photos of that to show us what you did.
I will try anything at the moment
Ps. And I have loads of cable ties.

There are pics on here somewhere, MRC use the cable tie method, Grizz used to re-Bush the pedal box but remember him struggling to get the bushes at one point.

That’s great dunc. Will give it a try. If it fixes the problem I would probably use it as a temporary measure.
Then have bushes renewed.

As Riggs said.
I have spent a fortune trying to sort this out.
I am not going to tell my wife that it may have only needed 4 cable ties from my toolbox.
Cheers guys for all the advice
Fingers crossed.

Hi mate
Take the lower dash trim off and the cover over the pedals which is fairly straight forward and just cable tie the bar to the top of the box. I used five cable ties and although I’ve only done maybe 250miles since doing it I’ve had no noise since. I don’t really see the point in rebushing it as there wasn’t a lot of play to begin with and the shaft seemed to look ok. If it came back then I’d probably look into to doing it but for now I’m happy enough.

I presume the cable ties are as tight as you can possibly get them to eliminate any excessive clearance.
I really hope this cures the problem as it is sending me nuts.
However I will feel like a right numpty at the same time.

I did them tight but not too mental cause the bar still needs to move.
Don’t worry I have my own garage and I have to say this got the better of me but it’s one of those (you don’t know what you don’t know) situations. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you👍
It made the drive so much nicer for me as I hate anything like that well as nice as coilovers can be on 20s!!! What’s that a pebble, avoid !!!!

Riggs yes mate. When driving On poor roads I spend more time looking at tarmac than the vehicles in front of me.
Because I hate the juddering and noise through the steering column.
Motorways and decent roads are a sheer pleasure.
At least I know what has been replaced. Less jobs for the future hopefully. So at least it won’t be money down the drain for nothing.
Really appreciate you sharing your fix with me.
Ps
Most of the roads around here are truly shocking.

That’s exactly what I do when I’m driving!!!
Yeah it’s the right way to look at it that your future proofing the car and let’s face it the cars are getting on now so it can’t be a bad thing. Ive only had mine for about 16mths now and I had my engine out this time last year for major future proofing, new intercoolers, turbos, gaskets, pas pipes, pas pump, cam belt kit, water pump, engine and gbox mounts etc etc I probably missed a few things but that was most of the bulk. But the way I look at it know is it should be good for but now🤔👍.
