Lights left on warning chimes stopped working

Post by Top cat » Sun May 09, 2021 10:30 am

Hi
Chimes are no longer working when the headlights are left on and keys removed from ignition.
I’ve had a search of the forum and not seen anything
Does anyone have any pointers on where to fault find
I suppose it could be a relay but no idea which one or where to look for it or the part number to replace.

Thanks

I have same problem. But haven’t got round to fixing it yet.
Poss broken wire. Peel back rubber surround where wires go into the door. Check wires.
Poss broken switch in drivers door lock.
Mine stopped working then came back again. Then stopped again.
Not sure if there is a VCDS check you can do.
Someone on here will know.
Ps mine has never worked when removing the keys from the ignition.
Only ever worked when I opened the drivers door

It'll either be a faulty door switch (car doesn't know the door is open) or the speaker on the cluster is dead. I'm not sure if it does any other sounds. Maybe if you simulate a fault that would cause a beep like brake fluid too low or tyre pressure too low or something and see if it beeps at you when you turn the ignition on.

You can check door switches with the Vagcom. Not sure about ignition key-in switch. Presumably you can.

I use the puddle lights as an indicator. If I open the door and the puddle light doesn't come on, that's a likely sign that the microswitch in the lock has died.
