Urgent drop link help
Evening all. Just swapping out a rear calliper and found this
(For some reason it’s loaded the picture on its side. Tilt your phone 90 degrees to the right so the shock is on the right of the picture ) This is the near side looking from behind. Appears the drop link is fitted incorrectly. It’s the same on both sides and has caused the link to fail on both sides pulling one bush out and leaving the roll bar not attached either side and rubbing on the shock.
Should the drop link sit the other side of the anti roll bar keeping it away from the shock ?
Anyone got any knowledge or pictures please. Needless to say I need to new drop links but want to ensure which side they go before re fitting
Incidentally I heard a slight knocking last drive before it went away I’m November which I now presume was this

Forget the bolt position. This is the offside. This is how I found it
This is how I think it should be fitted Re: Urgent drop link help
It's a wonder you didn't hear it rattling.

Re: Urgent drop link help
The last drive before it went in the garage in October I heard something from the rear end. K ew I was going to be checking the rear brakes soon so planned to hunt round.
Re: Urgent drop link help
I just checked since I rebuilt the back end when I powdercoated the upper and lower arms, replaced the shocks and installed the hotchkis bars.
However, I am afraid I don't have any pictures. Nevertheless, I think your 2nd picture must be correct since I don't recall any bits having marginal clearance.

Pushed the bushes back in and reassembled them now. You were right mate. Second picture was correct. Put the bolts in that way in the end as well as there isn’t enough space to put them the other way with the shock in place. Will fit the new pads and calliper tomorrow for the mot.Mɐʇʇ wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 3:02 pmI just checked since I rebuilt the back end when I powdercoated the upper and lower arms, replaced the shocks and installed the hotchkis bars.

Re: Urgent drop link help
I have had the occasional sway bar link bolt come loose after installing it in the "easy to get at" position . Old fashioned solution is to measure up the exposed thread after correctly tightening the bolt and drill a small hole through the free thread and either use a small split pin or wire it. It may loosen a small bit if it is inclined to do so but the nut won't come off and you won't get that potential for catastropic damage.
Another interesting point, if I read it correctly, your rear bar was disconnected. If so and you were driving without a rear bar, it would show how adjustble bars and suspension units are not always readable by the average driver.

Re: Urgent drop link help
One of the last drives of the year I felt the back end not feeling as it should and put it down to poor road surface. But this was probably when it popped off. Can’t of used it more than a handful of times from June to October as was flat out with a house move and sorting the split oil cooler hose between work. Felt a million times better today

Great news. Almost summer and hopefully a bit of driving time.
