19" vs 20"

Post by anditsoundslikebells » Sat Mar 27, 2021 10:30 am

I'm very happy with my 19" Oz but when I was deciding what size/width/offset I remember reading an article that mentioned that running 20's on a C5 RS6 would compromise the ride.
I now cannot find any mention of it anywhere.
Does anyone have experience with both or can explain the pros and cons of both to me?

I have run 20 and 19, currently on 19.

I prefer the look of 20's, but the ride certainly suffered for me due to the lower profile tyre. I guess it's personal preference though as I'm sure i've read that some people don't notice the difference, but for me it was night and day.

Might also depend on what suspension set up you have. I currently have KW V3 which are firm to start with, so may have played a part in the difference I felt.

Even so, I still prefer a better ride as this isn't exactly a car that is for throwing around.

I also prefer the look of 20's. I can't imagine when I'd buy a new set of rims though.
I'm also running KW V3 which are firm and low, maybe too firm and low.
I think if running the thinner profile detracted from the ride with this set up it wouldn't be a nice place to be.
I'm thinking of 10mm spacers to push mine out a bit, fill the arches more, so I can rise the car a bit and maybe soften it a touch.
The 20's do look good though!

I run 20’s with kw v3’s on mine but it’s how I got mine and I’ve often wondered if I got some 19’s would it improve the ride but I love the look of my 20’s and I don’t drive it that often so have no plans to to change them at the moment.

Your 20's do look great.
Here's mine in the same colour with 19's for comparison:

I think these are fast becoming my favourite wheel on the RS6. I must get some.

I just had mine refurbished the other week to freshen them up and they look even better now !!! I saw some for sale on eBay for £1800 a while ago,not sure I’d pay that for them though.
