Brake pads

Post by steve2003rs6 » Sat Mar 13, 2021 6:07 pm

Anyone using brembo brake pads. Are they any good.
Annual service next month so going to get some other bits done at the same time.
Carparts4less have 20% off at the moment. So a good time to buy.
Have usually had mintex pads in the past.

They are the same as the Mintex. i.e. compacted floor sweepings. If you were happy with the Mintex you'll be happy with the Brembo.

In that price range, they are all the same. Probably came out of the same factory in fact.

If you want better performance the price jumps a LOT.

I'm using Brembo P85078N NAO Series Premium Ceramic Brake Pad Set and haven't had any issues for "normal" driving. You can pay "a lot" more for race style performance pads but a lot down the drain if you don't use them to their potential. Never had an issue with my brakes, they get the occasional hard use and lots of normal use. The standard brakes are more effective than most on the road so you have more chance of some idiot running up your bum because your brakes are better even before you start trying to make them even better.

He’s not talking about that kind of Brembo pad. In the UK there are a glut of very cheap pads that carry the Brembo / Mintex / Pagid brand but which are barely up to the job of stopping the car. He’s talking about that kind of pad.

I have the OE Brembo pads in my C6 setup and they are very strong. I’ve tried the cheap pads (C5 brakes) and they caught fire before I even finished my bedding-in procedure. The OE Pagid pads are very good.

I tried Brembo and wasn't impressed. Got brake fade under even under moderate braking. Scared me a few times coming up to roundabouts.

Currently have EBC Yellow Stuff and they seem to be pretty good. No such issues.

Ahh, I see the name brembo without a part number. Wasn't aware that Brembo had sold their soul to the el cheapo gods in the UK. Pity.

Also considering the ferrodo ds2500.
Appreciate all the feedback gents.
I don’t usually get involved as the garage replaces them when needed.

The DS2500 are good. I use them on my M3 for track use. They're not technically road legal though, although they certainly don't need any warming up or anything. And not cheaper than OE pads. At least, they weren't the last time I looked.

But like I said, if you've never found the limits of the Mintex then you'll be fine with any of the pads.

Sounds like I should go with oe pads then.
For everyday use and occasional heated drive.

I've recently purchased a set of Ferodo FDB1664 from Autodoc. While I'd say they're not quite as fade resistant as the OE from TPS, they're more than up to the job of fast road / heavy applications when needed....at about a third of the cost. Complete with wear sensors, winner winner for me :D

Not particularly. Front left, front right, rear left, rear right.

You shouldn’t need to do anything else. I never have.
