Christine is back

Post by steve2003rs6 » Tue Mar 09, 2021 7:10 pm

On route to Halfords this morning for some windscreen wipers. Approaching traffic lights and I had to brake very hard. Instead of the usual quick stop I slowly came to a stop.
This was followed by erratic revs hunting and sounded like a mis fire.
Drove into Halfords. Came out and started car - everything back to normal.
Anyone have any ideas ?

Vac leak. Possibly to master cylinder.

Out for a drive today and hit a snow blizzard.
About two years ago my lights left on warning buzzer stopped working.
Today I exited the car and the buzzer sounded letting me know that my side lights were still on.
That was a welcome sound which I hope keeps working.
Either a wire problem or ccm fault I think ?
Also my remote wouldn’t let me in the car. Thankfully a new remote battery sorted that out.
I always change the battery yearly when the service is due. But this time didn’t last a full year.

Lights left on buzzer stopped working again.
Not concerned about that.
However Had to brake sharply and hardly any stopping power again. Only happens if I have to brake hard. Otherwise it’s ok. Very concerned.
Thankfully at garage next week. Hope grizz can get to grips with it and the small oil leak. Don’t think it is engine oil leaking.

Did the pedal sink, or was it hard?

Hi Ben. Pedal was hard. Almost stood on it with little effect. Revs hunting. Turned ignition off and back on again. Car back to normal.
Unit 20 next week

Sounds like you might need a new master cylinder. Grizz will sort you out.

/Or could be a split / holey mastervac hose.

I hope so. Change of underwear when it happens.
At the moment leaving a good distance between me and the car in front.
Light braking is ok.

Just checked all my fluid levels before tomorrow’s trip to unit 20.
Don’t know how but my brake fluid level is to the top of the filler bottle to the filler neck.
Will have to drain some out !
Or should I leave it ?
Had new front and rear flexi brake hoses fitted in July of last year. First time I have checked the level since that time. Never seen that before.
Just wondering if this is anything to do with my brake problem. Or the garage has way overfilled it.

Won't be anything to do with your brake problem. Most likely the garage overfilled, or rather didn't empty when compressing the pistons back in to put new pads in.

Hi dunc. I know they will sort it.
Just never seen the level so high.
Besides all the other stuff. Also asked grizz to do a brake fluid oil change.
How’s the porker and has your better half let you drive it yet ?

Porker is filthy, annoyed that I'm too busy to clean it. Done around 600 miles now I think, and I'VE done about 570 of them I have you know
